Adventure is a product of unbridled imagination. The greatest journeys a child or any person will ever embark upon begins and ends with the magic they create within their own minds. I believe my design captures the heart and soul of childhood adventure, because it goes straight to the source of adventure: imagination.
My design is appropriately titled “Anywhere”. It’s purpose is to become a canvas for each child who encounters it. It’s simple form, vibrant colors, and variety of spaces encourage productive learning through invigorating play. Through play, “Anywhere” will go to space; it will go to the tops of mountains and the depths of the sea. It will become a cave, a castle, a rocket, and a palace. Then, it will wait quietly and elegantly to be transformed again. Imagination can take us anywhere, and that is the true adventure.
Anywhere is a simple form based on the circle and the spiral. This eliminates many potentially dangerous edges and minimizes the number of connections required to assemble. This form could be achieved in a variety of construction mediums and could even be delivered as an empty formwork, which the community could then “infill” using plastic bottles, rammed earth, or wax infused cardboard. Inside one finds opportunities to climb, crawl, or simple gaze through the large opening to the sky. This opening could be open air or closed with clear plexi-glass. Soft play elements such as foam stairs, padded platform, and Rock Pillows enhance safety and add variety to the textural palette.
