Building a real playhouse may prove to be a huge adventure for a 4 year old kid. We considered the benefits of unveiling, to small children, where do materials come from and providing them with the understanding of how a building is built, have in the very young and curious mind of an infant. We also believe that the pedagogic process that involves planning, gathering materials, participating in the construction, using and caring for it may have very positive effects in the mental development of young children.
The main idea in the conception of this wooden playhouse is the collaboration between children and grownups in the construction of the actual playhouse. The house is designed in a way that we are able to incorporate in the building process the direct intervention of children in activities that go from gathering certain reusable materials such as used milk or juice cartons for the roofing tiles or the hard paper tubes used for some of the enclosures and internal decorations to the final painting and decoration of the spaces.
The wooden base, pillars and beams are to be fabricated in a workshop and may easily be assembled on site combined with the standard sized marine plywood boards that would require minimal cuts in order to slide, screw or nail intoplace in a simple step by step building process.
The interaction of the children with the playhouse is undetermined, for they would be able to use it in a variety of manners according to their moods and needs.
