Stars have been a main driver for adventure through all of humanity’s existence - serving as inspiration and helping us navigate on our path. Today, they’ve even become a target themselves! Inspiration is the first step on any great journey, and this geodesic dome provides a great place to start any child’s journey to the stars.
On top of a wooden octagonal frame, this 7’ wood and plexiglass geodesic dome draws inspiration from architect/engineer Buckmnister Fuller to create the perfect child-sized observatory. A 70mm refractor telescope is modified and mounted to sit within the framework. To help see the entirety of the sky - the rigid dome framing is mounted on a series of casters (safely set within a wooden frame) so that it can rotate 360 degrees horizontally. Vertical rotation is provided by the telescope’s mount.
