This is the Houzz-AIA charitable playhouse design competition ENTRY titled Rocky Mountain Adventure Playhouse.

Unlike many of the other beautiful and much-LIKED designs, this one actually complies with the design criteria for size.


It’s a bit open, and therefore difficult to restrict access, but that design criteria is flawed, because they are playhouses !
This design could even be shipped flat and assembled on site, if necessary.

Concept: Rocky Mountain Adventure
A mountainous landscape surrounds the play area, with vistas in several directions, and at different altitudes.
Steps allow the young adventurer to get up above ground level and see past mountain peaks.
A crawl-in cave entrance on one side and a standing entrance allow entry/exit variation.
Most surfaces screen printed with natural forest and mountain views.
One surface has a unidirectional view, so interior space is visible from outside.

Materials :
Half inch plywood with screen printed textures (approx 5 sheets)
Pipe insulation foam edging
One way mirror with transparent screen print
Sanded acrylic adhesive texture on walking surfaces, formulated for high traffic

SPECIAL NOTE about the design criteria:
This specific element of the specifications is considered nonsensical, and has been ignored.
“Therefore, your playhouse design must have all openings either closed or protected, so that children don’t actually play in the playhouses during this time. “
Please put a transparent dome over my entry, if this situation becomes a reality.
