As a child, a simple cardboard box was often the catalyst for a great adventure. It would provoke imagination and creativity far beyond the reaches of its intended function.
Likewise, the proposed playground concept is intended to elicit adventure from the imagination within - while also providing a literal connection through its transformation from box to playground.
The transportable playground, mainly comprised of 2x framing, plywood, plastic and powder coated metal, is designed to function on two levels: closed and open.
The closed (or box) position is held together via powder coated metal angles that bolt into the four corners at two places each. Once removed, the angles are re-purposed for stability in the open position. The top of the box is comprised of individual wood pieces that when opened assist in strengthening the play unit as well. Forklift slots are on one side of the wood box for practical purposes.
The opened (or play) position features two slides and platform, a horizontal tunnel, a metal climbing structure, and a surrounding mesh web, each uniquely designed in conjunction with the four box walls.
