#PlayHouzz
Entry for the Play Houzz Contest
Held by Houzz, Life of an Architect, AIA, and Google SketchUp
Inspired by the typology of caves, this playhouse was designed to encourage children to explore, pretend, take risks, and solve problems while being immersed and connected to the natural world.
Caves are the perfect settings for adventures because their contents are always a mystery. This cave is no exception, and the adventure begins before you even step inside, with a dynamic planted façade. The discovery continues as you try to figure out how to open a mysterious door that masks the structure’s interior. When the entry is clear, you step into a sky-lit inner room that appears empty. It’s only when you rotate the carousel entry again that four secret rooms are revealed, each featuring visible and hidden storage areas for an adventurer’s tools.
