The (reclaimed Loblolly Pine) wood is sealed with a clear polyurethane, we selected a satin finish for the floor and a matte finish for the ceiling to let the grain come through without shininess. The reclaimed wood is very old-growth pine and the waxy look may be coming from the sap which still saturates the grain.
Ceiling The 15-foot by 23-foot studio has a simple open gable plan. Rough-cut pine shiplap (1x8), milled just down the road, warms the cathedral ceiling. Douglas fir beams (4-by-8s) break down the vaulted ceiling’s expanse. The flooring is engineered hickory. No drywall underneath the shiplap; 4" of spray foam (and R-22 fiberglass batts) as insulation to create airtight assembly. Walls 9' tall with peak of ceiling being 15'
