DC Area's Award-Winning, Expert Interior Design Firm

Anita loves to transform rooms with bold design that are seamless, functional and a canvas for the personality of those that live there. She combines new pieces from furniture markets, and clients’ existing furniture, while mixing color, texture and pattern and striving for the optimal spatial arrangement. Anita was a ballet dancer, teacher, and choreographer for the Anneliese Von Oettingen School of Ballet before pursuing a career in design. She earned a design degree from Antonelli College in Cincinnati Ohio before moving to the northern VA area. In Virginia she has contributed her design expertise to schools, and non-profits for over 20 years. Anita worked with a business partner in the successful design firm, RoomAntics Interiors for 12 years before Anita moved forward as a sole entrepreneur of her own design firm. Anita continues to find inspiration in travel, furniture markets, show houses and the design icons present and historic. Her design firm is the eponymous firm, Anita Buchheim Interiors, focusing primarily in the DMV area.

Anita is not only a beautiful and talented designer, but also a wonderful listener. We have traveled a lot and have also blended cultures in our home, and she understood our desire to honor all facets of our home life. She has done a fabulous job interpreting our desires to retain certain pieces of furniture and showed us how to seamlessly blend them with new pieces if we so chose (often painting or reupholstering the older pieces to refresh them). Our rooms have all turned out beautifully! We have redone our living and dining rooms, our family room, our foyer, powder room, and our kitchen and breakfast nook. We are working on our master bedroom. Our aim was to introduce color throughout, and we selected colors that complimented our existing home. Our gorgeous interiors are a true blend of older and familiar, with brand new. We could not be happier with our home or with Anita! And we would highly recommend her for any project or any room.

Anita and RoomAntics were indispensable when we renovated our entire main floor: three walls removed, new floors, new cabinets, new appliances, and new window treatments, doors, carpets, and furniture. Anita was on point with our contractor when things didn't go as planned. She helped keep us sane and spent a lot of time with us. And now it looks fantastic! They helped us with a floor plan and decorating scheme that is tasteful and unique. Afterwards Anita helped us freshen our upstairs bedrooms and office. She suggested a few strategic purchases and placement of our furniture for better flow. She helped to display our artwork and choose paint and color schemes to make what we already had look better! We heartily recommend Anita and RoomAntics for any decorating project!

We wanted to transform the look of our stairway located in the hallway in the entrance to our home. It was a carpeted stairway. We spoke with Aliza and indicated we did not prefer the carpeted stairway that already was installed in the new home we purchased and wanted a different look. We made it clear we didn't want it carpeted. She stated what her initial consultation fee was. We agreed. So she arrives at our home with carpet samples! We asked for advice related to options for a new look for stair treads and risers. We asked about changes to the railing and spindles. She told us to go and look at different colored paints and stains and let her know what we thought. She wasn't going to do this for us and lay out her suggestions to guide us! We never heard from her again. Waste of hundreds of dollars! Do not recommend at all! We agreed with a carpetless stair option with another professional and had them redone by a reliable contractor. They look wonderful! The project was completed in March 2025.

Being new* (ahem) to the world of home renovation design, I relied strongly on Anita and Aliza for guidance. Of course this is a capability in which they clearly excel (see their Instagram). Their visual superpowers defy my comprehension. They conjure up the perfect mix of components and colors, spending time with me in the tile stores. We got our steps in! A lot goes into selecting and matching tile, flooring, paint, hardware, cabinetry, and room design. They achieved this: as a result the project's three rooms are somehow all at once eye-catching, coordinated, calming, welcoming. Engage them, you will be glad you did. *naive

My husband and I had moved to a wonderful new townhouse that had good flow and light, but our furniture from our previous home didn’t work. With driftwood tone floors, white kitchen and baths, and staircase, we had too many brown furnishings that looked dull and tired. Aliza and Anita of Roomantics gave us a neutral background of beautiful upholstery and case goods and zeroed in on our favorite shades of blue and green for accents. Besides the furniture, the art, rugs, pillows and even the accessories, greenery and silk flowers were selected with great care and artistry. Besides truly enjoying our “new beautifully furnished home” ourselves, the project has also been enthusiastically received by our friends and family when we entertain. We feel Roomantics really captured our style and taste and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

Anita and Aliza are true talents! They transformed 2 dated rooms (living room and dining room) into up to date beautiful living spaces. They work beautifully together and with you to fit your color sense and your style to personalize your home in a showcase. They have a great eye for just the right accessory and placement of your own treasures and heirlooms. They also spruced up my family room and kitchen to create a beautiful flow of overall color and theme for my entire first floor of my home. Truly exceptional designers!

COVID isolation was the perfect time to renovate our dated kitchen and adjoining family room. But how do you do that when you don't want to work in person, or can't? We reached out to Roomantics, and worked together via Zoom. The process was seamless. Their experience gave us ideal solutions to problems we had struggled with for years (like how to get our microwave off the counter). We were able to keep our cabinets by painting them, and leveled out our two counter areas (one which had a lower area for deskwork, and the other a high-low center island). Everything is now bright an updated.

I just loved working with Aliza and Anita, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. I had no idea of how I wanted my space to look, so they walked me through each step--finding ideas I liked, deciding what to keep and what to get rid of, picking colors, and choosing furniture and fabrics. I wanted a unique look that was all mine and a livable space for my family, my cat, and me. That's what I got! It's a perfect look that emphasizes my great windows and a few special pieces. Anita and Aliza redecorated 2 rooms for us as well as recommending new paint and floors for most of our house. We bought new furniture and rugs for the dining room; and in the process changed the whole color palette and made it so much lighter and brighter and more modern. We love it. They were able to take a mirror and a couple of paintings from other parts of the house as well as other objects that we love. The second big project was our powder room. We went from having a toilet and pedestal sink to a toilet and beautiful unique vanity. They also added wallpaper, a mirror and new lighting, The room is stunning! Anita and Aliza are so much fun to work with and you get both of them!
