We hired Carolyn Von Der Ahe and her staff to contemporize our home. We had very nice things but they were dated. Carolyn put together a plan, gave us ideas to think about, and was forthright yet diplomatic about things we should change. It is easy to stay with what you are comfortable with. Having someone with a point of view and the willingness to express it is important. In some cases, we bought new furniture; in others we recovered. Her recommednations and taste level were excellent. We are thrilled. She stayed on top of the project, often times having to prod us as we got behind. She met every delivery and kept us apprised of progress. If there was a hold up, she made us aware of it. At the end, which was really fun and idnciative of her engagement and pride in her work, she had us leave the house for the day so she could surprise us with the finished product including flowers throughout the house. I should say the project scale and cost ended up being more that we had anticipated but that was our decision as we began to get into it, we wanted to completely finish and not piece meal.

Carolyn helped us to decorate our home when we first bought it in 2003, and again after we did some remodeling in 2013. Since she did such a wonderful job on our home, Carolyn was our first choice to decorate our new beach house in time for this summer! After we provided a preferred color scheme, Carolyn prepared the design with our family's needs in mind. She warehoused all the furnishings piece by piece as they came in, then chose an "install day" during which she and her staff transformed our beach house from a blank canvas to a gorgeous, fully furnished and functional vacation home all in one day! The experience was just like what you see on TV - we, the homeowners, came back to a beautifully decorated space! We would not hesitate to recommend Carolyn to anyone!

Although we are honored to work with some of the best Interior designers in California, admittedly Carolyn clearly is considered amongst the best. Her friendly, warm and polite personality, coupled with her crystal clear communication skills makes it a pleasure to work with. We admire her taste in her designs and she constantly amazes our team of professionals with her creative ability. Throughout the past couple of years, my husband and I have had the privilege and pleasure of working with Carolyn Von Der Ahe of Von der Ahe Interiors. Carolyn creates current yet timeless designs which reflect our personalities and lifestyle. Carolyn is approachable, agreeable, and readily accessible. She works well within a set budget and timeline. Our home projects have ranged from updating the "softscape" of several rooms, bringing a fresh new look with color and textures, to the complete remodels and customization of an art studio/office and backyard pergola The integrity of our 1926 Spanish Colonial home has been beautifullly maintained due to Carolyn's natural talent for design and keen awareness of time period architecture.

Carolyn helped decorate our entire house as we did a full remodel. Every room turned out absolutely beautiful. Her ideas and taste are fabulous and she was very mindful of cost, never putting pressure on to do more. I have used Carolyn throughout the years for any room change in the house so May 2003 was just the beginning. I cannot recommend Carolyn more highly and know if you hire her, she will do a marvelous job on your home.

Commented: what is width of columns? are they fiberglass?These are custom wood columns done to plan by the contractor...I'm sure you can duplicate if you show your contractor this pic for inspiration! Good luck!
