Most remodeling projects are driven by changing needs. I help clients design the homes they need for the lives they are creating. Using my Next Step Home Design Process, we discover opportunities to reinvent your home to support your family’s evolving needs at each life phase; from young families wanting a family room or education space, empty nesters with some underutilized rooms to repurpose, or strategies for Aging in Place with purpose and creativity. We didn't hire Colin for our modest garage remodel because he told us not to. At least not until we'd first spoken with our local buidling department to see what was required. He listened to what we had in mind, gave us great counsel, and proved that their are decent trustworthy folks still living among us. When we decide to renovate our home, or if asked for a recommendation, Colin would be my first call. Maybe after the building department.

Colin combines the amazing qualities of creativity, problem solving, and personality. He began our journey by generously listening to our wants and needs. He then offered expert strategies that reflected our story and the architecture of our house so that any remodeling had integrity to the original design. Working with Colin Healy is a pleasure and a privilege. We asked him to design changes to make our first floor wheelchair accessible, create an accessible first floor bathroom and to renovate our second floor bathroom. His experience and thoroughness in thinking through the changes needed to accomplish our goals have been both impressive and reassuring. He is a fantastic educator and counselor with regard to all building-related matters. After taking his recommendations into account, we pulled out of our initial offer on a house and found one that was a much better fit. We then worked with him to hammer out the architectural changes we would need. Whenever I had a question about the building, he was willing to take a look and make recommendations about the structure. He also helped guide our aesthetic choices and prevented us from making some mistakes that I know I would have regretted later. His professionalism and communication skills are top-notch, which make working with him a joy. He cares deeply about his work, and he makes sure that things go well. When you work with him, you know that you’ll love the home you’re living in and be able to sell it later.

Colin also helped with guest bath remodel and front porch/walkway/yard redesign so that our curb appeal improved considerably while we gained great views of the property and great sitting area. Next up is master bathroom and kitchen/laundry room. We find Colin personable and honest; he is a good listener and punctual. He introduced us to our contractor and roofer and we found his advise valuable. Recommend him highly.

Colin Healy has done a number of projects for us from small to large. We have known Colin for 30+ years personally and professionally and find him flexible and easy to work with. His ability to hear what is needed and respond appropriately is a quality that he has and that we look for when working with someone. If we changed our minds or needed to go in a different direction Colin was right there with us, guiding us and offering suggestions. Colin designed several projects for our residence; 1) incorporation of a porch into a small family room to make a great room; a large deck, and most challenging of all enclosing and enlarging a stoop to make a large, formal entry. The challenge was that the front door was located in the corner of an "L" and the proportioning of the roof to harmonize with the pre-existing structure required a keen esthetic sense

It was a pleasure to work with Colin. He was meticulous in his plans as well as creative in solving challenges to our kitchen and family room project. We had an older good-bones house with a very dated kitchen and family room. We wanted to integrate a more modern look to attract today’s buyers. In a very down market, we were one of the few houses in our neighborhood to display a Sold Sign.

I wanted to replace an outdated and design-inappropriate solarium window bump-out, and add a new portico to the front of my 1930's house in a historic district. Colin took great interest and care in creating a solution that worked within the existing footprint, and blended beautifully with the rest of the house facade. He also suggested a few smaller exterior details, such as working window shutters with historically appropriate hardware. I am thrilled with the results, inside and out, and so are my neighbors! Colin was a pleasure to work with.

My husband and I were in the middle of a project of adding a mudroom, powder-room and laundry room to our existing home, when we ran into problems with the layout and cabinetry design of the laundry room. We wanted the room to be a beautiful and easily workable space to do laundry and sewing and also serve as a storage area for housecleaning supplies and tools. It was a challenge fitting all those needs into one room. Previous to Colin, we had consulted with 3 decorators and 2 contractors, none of whom came up with a satisfying solution for us. We invited Colin Healy over to look at our "problem area." He was very attentive and patient in listening to our needs and vision. Then right there on the spot he drew a design that worked!! The room was built to his specs and now, thanks to Colin, we have the laundry room of my dreams. I will take some pics in a future date and include in this review. Thank you , Colin!

Barbara, Thanks so much for the nice comments. You had some great instincts about what you wanted to do with the room that were easy to translate. I love the antique sewing machine that you still use. My grandfather worked for Singer and my Mom had one a lot like it. I like the way you hide it under the counter when not in use. The big work table is great for crafts and folding.
