Whether designing an entire living space, a kitchen, or a bath, all projects command the same attention to detail and level of commitment. I pride myself on being a truly personalized service: the client is never just a project number, but real people whom I get to know. When questions arise, I am always the one who will respond, because I am the person who will have been there through every phase of the project. I recognize that active communication between client and designer is at the heart of every successful collaboration. Craig H. Certner recognizes the importance of active communication between client and designer. A strong client-designer team leads to solid decisions and paves the way for perfect results. Craig’s trained and creative eye expands the client’s viewpoint; he encourages clients to look at their living spaces in new and unique ways. How can we make your space reflect your personality, taste, and lifestyle? Craig guides each client through the myriad of choices that exist, sifting through trends and styles and options in order to develop the ideal plan. Craig’s expertise in design, style, and color enables him to personalize each project in creative and inspiring ways. Craig has been designing exciting and innovative interiors for nearly 30 years in Boston, New York, San Francisco, Newport Beach, and Palm Beach. He studied design at Clark University and Parsons School of Design.

Craig made the renovation process very easy for us and we love the result. He worked to understand our style and functional requirements. From the initial presentation, we were impressed with the materials and designs. The master bath was completely gutted and instead of simply updating the fixtures that were there, we were presented with designs that maximized the everyday use of the space. It is a bright, spacious and beautiful space with more room to move and storage that we imagined. The powder room is a gorgeous old world meets new world look that is truly impressive to guests. Craig is responsive, attentive, professional and listens to your input and feedback. We loved working with Craig, enjoyed the process and will happily work with him again.

This was for a complete master bath remodel down to the studs. Craig is great to work with. He brings boundless enthusiasm and genuine caring to the project. He incorporated our own preferences and his creativity in to the design to create something that we now enjoy every day. We're also happy with the contractor he arranged.

While I live far from Craig, he has designed a kitchen, main bathroom and we are in the process of designing another bathroom together. 15 years ago, we hired a design build firm to redo our kitchen. The designer turned out to be subpar (and was subsequently let go). Craig stepped in and designed the kitchen with the contractor from afar. Still love my kitchen!!! Years later, I wanted to redo my main bathroom. I hired a contractor and Craig designed the whole thing. I sent him dimensions and he sent me links for choices of tiles, cabinets, lighting, even pulls for the cabinets. towel racks...literally everything!!!! Then he ordered and shipped everything to me. He worked directly with my on site contractor with all the nitty gritty questions that come up. It worked so smoothly that we're doing it again! We have a small beach house and we are adding a small bathroom. Again, out of town. Craig sent choices for everything, ordered it all and is working with my contractor from afar. He's SO creative, worked within our budget and was always available for questions from the contractor. Highly recommend him!!

We worked with Craig on our kitchen and family remodel a few years ago and we are clients for life! He gave us a modern, elegant design that reflects our taste and is highly functional. He created a nice flow between the kitchen and family room. He had great ideas for saving money and made several substitution recommendations that gave us the same look but with lower maintenance (e.g. jet mist honed granite instead of soapstone). We just hired Craig to remodel our master bathroom and upstairs. He is a joy to work with and now a part of our family.

We worked with Craig Certner Design on a major renovation of our Boston brick row house - combining two units. Craig’s vision and design expertise resulted in exceptional results reflecting our personality. Craig helped us create a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and a den, as well as renovate two bathrooms and a powder room. Craig helped us realize our vision by embracing some of the existing design elements while adding a modern twist. The result is a home that is gorgeous, warm, and elegant. Craig has an exceptional ability to combine affordable pieces/materials with more expensive pieces/material in order to produce a luxurious home within your budget. Simply put, Craig’s work is exquisite. We are thrilled with our home and would happily work with Craig again!

Craig was crucial to the renovation of our house. We essentially gutted the house. Craig proposed the layout and design of the house. He integrated many functional components (such as having the laundry on the second floor) and interesting design elements that are just amazing. He was very professional in every aspect but I also felt like he spent time learning who we are so that the design reflected our personalities. I have nothing but great things to say about Craig and highly recommend him.

We have worked with Craig on a number of construction and renovation projects over the last ten years. Most recently, he helped us design and select the materials for the construction of three basement rooms (rec room, bathroom, and bedroom) in our log cabin in NH, ensuring that we maximized the space and stayed true to the rustic, log cabin spirit of the home. Previously, Craig had helped us completely renovate our dated kitchen and powder room in our Massachusetts home. Always a pleasure to work with, Craig brings not only his exquisite design sense to every project, but also his willingness to listen to our ideas and our budget. His years of experience informs every project he works on, from selecting just-the-right paint color to completely transforming a room. His creativity in solving design problems is second to none.

We have hired Craig Certner Design twice, both with exceptional results. The first was a few years ago; he designed a new kitchen for our 20 year old house. We didn't think we had room for a cooking island, but Craig rearranged the space and we ended up with a 2 level island that we loved. More recently we bought a 100-year old house that needed a complete renovation. Craig redesigned the spaces (kitchen addition, 2-1/2 baths, new closets) which involved taking down some walls and repurposing some rooms. It was a huge project and we couldn't be happier. We would use Craig Certner Design again without question.

Craig is a joy to work with! So responsive, creative and brings fresh ideas to each project. Craig has worked for us on multiple projects, most recently on a complete kitchen renovation including removing walls and creating a new dining space. We love the functionality it brings to our large family and we are the envy of everyone who comes into our kitchen, which looks straight out of a magazine! Craig's vendors are also top-notch, we love the quality and value of the materials Craig suggested and Craig was mindful of our budget by suggesting more economic options anytime it made sense! Executive summary: best money we spent on the kitchen remodel. We brought in Craig when we decided to do a gut remodel of our kitchen. Taking everything down to the studs gave us a blank canvas to work with that was, frankly, daunting. We tried a couple of the free design services and nothing felt right – everything felt too cookie cutter and bland. Designing the kitchen with Craig was truly a fun experience. He came to the house to talk with us about what we wanted, took some initial measurements, and got back to us with a design. That’s when it got really enjoyable: we had multiple iterations of “What about this?” and “Can we try that?” It wasn’t just Craig telling us what to do, he incorporated our ideas and feedback enthusiastically. There were a few times he told us flat-out not to do something and in hindsight I see that he was correct. We also had some of our own fixed requirements and he worked those into the process. The end result is amazing. The kitchen has become our favorite room in the house and a room where the whole family congregates. Wish we would have remodeled years ago but it wouldn’t have been nearly as good without Craig’s help.

We used Craig for his design services for an extensive renovation of our home in Arlington. Renovation included major structural work to create an open floorplan, a new kitchen and 3 new bathrooms. Craig did an amazing job with our kitchen and bathroom design. He also provided invaluable input to optimize the new layout of the home as we reconfigured the space. Craig made tile, paint, cabinet, counter-top and other selections a breeze and helped remove stress from the process. We are very lucky we found Craig and highly recommend his services.

Hiring Craig was the best decision we could have made for our kitchen remodel. The whole idea of remodeling and the many choices available to us was overwhelming, but Craig put us at ease the moment we met him. He made the design experience fun as well as one that resulted in a beautiful kitchen. Initially, we were going to just refinish our cabinets and replace counters, tile, etc. That was actually his initial suggestion and he was sensitive to budget limitations, even though we hadn’t given him a budget to start with. As we thought about the project, however, we decided on our own that we wanted to do a more comprehensive remodel and eventually took the whole kitchen down to the studs. Once we made that decision, Craig offered us new design ideas and ways of thinking about the space. He struck the right balance of listening to our ideas and concerns, offering us choices, and also narrowing the myriad of choices out there to ones that would be good options for our vision. Throughout the process, Craig was extremely responsive and easy to work with. He was patient during the inevitable stress of having one’s kitchen torn up for weeks and the many small decisions we had to make along the way, and he quickly took care of fixing any small details that weren’t right. He even referred us to a great contractor who delivered our kitchen on time and on budget. We’re looking forward to working with him again soon on a bathroom remodel.
