Jaeger & Ernst Custom Cabinetmakers

An extremely smart, design oriented custom cabinetmaker that has a tremendous knowledge of many, many different styles. We worked together on a very involved Arts & Crafts project that involved all custom shop drawings for every cabinet. Walter Jaeger is well versed in "Period" furniture and design and brougt his extensive knowledge to the project. Every detail was discussed and implemented. The final product was amazing and exceeding everyone's high expectations, stayed within budget and stayed on time. I would highly recommend him for any size project.

Cannot say enough great things about the design, old world craftsmanship, highest attention to detail and follow through from J&E. We worked with Walter on a major Greene and Greene renovation including doors, picture windows, light fixtures, cabinets, custom wood work in three rooms of the house. Just amazing work! We replaced our 15-year-old kitchen cabinetry with J&E hand-made, solid wood cabinets. Their workmanship is old-world quality with attention to detail. We acted as our own contractors, and J&E were helpful every step of the way. Best of all: working with the J&E team who were extraordinarily pleasant at every turn!

J & E built customized shelves to fit a large wall in our home, accommodate a piano, and support a substantial weight of books. They are true craftsmen and did an incredible job, in both the planning and execution. They assured that every detail was perfect and that we got exactly what we wanted. They are expensive but, for us, worth the price. I did have to badger them to keep close to the promised schedule, and after they finished, their accounting department never produced a final bill, and then called me to complain when I just sent a check a month later based on their estimate, saying that I was a few hundred dollars short. How would I know - I thought I was doing them a favor. But, the administrative issues disappear, and we have beautiful shelves that will outlast us. That's what counts.

We partnered with Jaeger & Ernst on a custom console for a client. The end result was beautiful. I would highly recommend them.

J&E has completed five projects for me. They include three projects constructing furniture and two maintenance/repair projects. All were completed professionally and of the highest quality. J&E's attention to detail is noteworthy. If you are looking heirloom quality woodwork, cabinets or custom furniture, I highly recommend J&E. The cost is commensurate with the quality.

Craig & Wally have assisted us with 4 major projects/rooms in our Capitol Hill home -our incredible kitchen, our library, an office, and a bathroom fitted with closets and drawers. In each project, Craig worked with us in planning and creating the perfect room. His artistry and creative contributions added significant enjoyment to each design. Craig and Walter stayed in contact with us during the planning and the execution of these rooms. We wanted walnut cabinets. Importantly, Craig made suggestions for use of other woods in places that would not be visible-an enormous assist for our budget. Craig and his team executed all our plans perfectly. They showed up as promised and completed the work as scheduled. Lastly, they stand by their work. A piece of moulding detached itself in our library. 20+ years after he completed this great library, Craig and his team made a full repair of this moulding.

Walter did custom woodwork for our home. Helped with the design and five years later it looks as beautiful as the day which it was put it in. Would hire them again in a heartbeat.

Walter Jaeger is a creative designer and careful producer of exquisite cabinetry. He worked extremely well and very closely with our interior designer to choose the following: styles and shapes of baseboards, crown molding, door jams and window frames, the doors themselves, cherry paneling in the living room, painted paneling and vertical beams in the foyer, wainscotting in the bathrooms; and newel posts for the stairs. Three items were not provided in our architectural drawings and the result of Walter's design effort for these items within the context of the house AND the execution of those designs in his shop is largely the reason our home is as lovely as it is. The visual result is pleasing and varied but unified and in keeping with the context of the house as a whole. Walter of course designed the painted L-shaped upper and lower kitchen cabinets on two walls; a large center island and a large ceiling-hung structure over the island to hold the exhaust fan above the range. He listened to all my needs and hit it spot on every time, anticipating my needs and making suggestions and recommending slight changes that vastly improved my initial concepts. Almost every item has just that little extra touch that makes the item unique and adds visual appeal. I loved the hardware he recommended and the one cabinet standing alone on the third wall finished in natural wood. The whole is very pleasing and I get many compliments on the cabinets for which I hasten to give Walter credit. While I know he had other clients and projects at the time, when I was meeting with Walter, I felt like I was his only client—he was always attentive and never rushed and could understand the result I was trying to convey although I lack the proper architectural vocabulary. Measurements were taken flawlessly so almost everything fit perfectly at installation. Where unforeseen obstacles impeded installation, Walter and his crew work tireless to overcome that obstacle. He and his crew honorable, talented and dedicated to doing things correctly. When we decided to finish out part of the basement in 2012 we had no hesitation about asking Walter Jaeger to build the cabinets and bookcases there as well. Again a wonderful result.

I have a beautiful piece of furniture made by this company. The craftsmanship is remarkable, and it's still in perfect condition even after years of everyday use. I have friends who are lucky enough to have Walter Jaeger kitchens, gorgeous fireplace and built in bookcases. They are so special. And he is the nicest man.
