Residential Design: David Hirzel has been serving the design needs of the California Coast from Aptos to San Francisco since 1980. He has become an expert at accommodating the unique mandates of zoning and design review required by the many jurisdictions, and the evolving specifications of the Uniform Building Code. New Construction: With the active participation of owners and contractors David Hirzel guides the project from original concept, through the three-dimensional analysis of floor plan and structural stability to the final realization of the working drawings. All projects are designed from the outset with design review and engineering requirements, and the owners’ particular ideas firmly in mind. Remodels and Additions: Thoughtfully designed with harmonious forms and details to appear as though they were always existing, remodels and additions are created with the same care and owner participation. Why change your address when a new, updated look inside and out may be all that's needed. David Hirzel began his career in the building trades in 1972, installing kitchens. Over the next decade he added the skills of carpentry, concrete forming, plumbing, and electrical work. This experience laid the groundwork for his understanding of the systems which combine to make a building, and how they interact with each other. On acquiring his California General Contractor’s License in 1983, he expanded his scope to include larger residential additions, adding design capability in 1986. Working extensively with existing structures, he gained an in-depth understanding of the many causes of building system failures, and how the correct details, incorporated to every design, can best ensure success.
