We have called upon Janice at Distinctive Décor several times during the past 20+ years for interior design and decorating at our last two homes. Her advice and guidance have always been ‘spot on’ for our needs. Her eye for color selection is amazing and she has saved us countless hours selecting the perfect choices. The vendors she recommends have been very impressive and consistent over the years. We will continue to utilize her professional expertise and recommend her to our family and friends.

Janice spent quality time with us as we tried to figure out a new kitchen configuration. With a tri-level house the design became very challenging. Janis took on this challenge and gave us an amazing, “out of the box” design. She also gave us several tips and suggested we look into our exact appliances first, with the pandemic there are several delays. We ordered our appliances and will be heading to demo day soon. We appreciate Janice’s willingness to take on a difficult design idea and turn it into a homeowners dream!

Janice came up with some fantastic designs to turns our master bathroom into a masterpiece. She helped us envision the project to plan and helped guide us with all the small details to make everything perfectly finished.

We recently purchased a home that was in need of a complete remodel. Our contractor recommended we contact Janice Peters, whom he had worked with on a few projects. At our first meeting we knew we were in good hands and she would help us create the home we envisioned! We have hired Janice several times over the years and she has always done a beautiful job. Janice is very organized and cares about delivering a high quality design while staying within our budget. She helped us with our paint colors, furniture and kitchen. I have recommended her to my friends and family.

Does not stand behind her work. I read several of the reviews on this site and gave Janice a call to help me with drapery. At first I thought that she was professional, responsive, and she presented well during her initial consultation. Unfortunately, I found that her professionalism ended there. She cashed the check I gave her for work that she failed to perform properly and entirely within an hour of it being handed to her. Thankfully I am only out $939, and dodged a huge bullet, since I was planning on having her do almost $5,000 worth of drapery over the next couple of months. The initial project that she did for me was very simple: $414 to lower the drapery rod in my great room, cut and re-install 3 brackets, re-pin the existing drapes, and service the rod. Janice failed to give her guy instructions until I texted her to tell her that he had questions, showed-up ONLY to collect money, claimed she didn't have a measurement for her drapery person - because she was unable to measure (even though she did - I helped her do it, plus I took pictures of the tape measure so we could see the distance) - then left, leaving me to supervise the work. The rod was not lowered, as it was supposed to be, the center bracket was cut, but not the other two that are visible - so it is higher at the bottom than the other two, the drapes were repined unevenly and look very sloppy, her guy left the rod twisted with the screws sticking up so the drapes did not operate, he scratched the rod badly in the center, wrinkled the drapes, failed to service the rod, and told me to rip up his check and rip up the check to Janice because he claimed that what I was asking for he couldn't do. JANICE WAS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND. When I told her that there was a problem she really didn't care that I was upset about what happened. I believe it is because she had gotten upset with me earlier that day for wanting to postpone my dining room drapes until after the holidays, leaving me with the impression that she was really counting on the money you have to pay her up front. She came out the next day and I asked her to refund a portion of my money. She said she was absolutely satisfied with the work that was performed and she stood behind her professional opinion that the work was fine, and professionally done. Since there was not really any work done, the drapes were left sloppy and uneven, and the bottom of the brackets were uneven, she was so adamant that they looked great and that the work was good, I told her to go. Then she had the nerve to send me an email again standing behind her opinion - BUT NOT STANDING BEHIND HER WORK or the fact that she got paid for work that was not performed. I ended-up paying her $414 to have my drapery repined very sloppily, my rod scratched, a highly visible bracket cut (that shouldn't have been since it wasn't moved), and a ton of aggravation due to her extreme unprofessionalism, and frankly her unfounded arrogance. In a custom home everything comes down to details. In my opinion, Janice is just not a detail person. She has also acted with ZERO integrity. I have been fortunate enough to work with several very professional designers, and they have always been present during work and never left me, the client, to do their jobs. They have also always made sure I was happy. Janice just didn't care.

Janice remodeled 2 bedrooms for us in a beach theme. She chose a gorgeous fiberglass surfboard, fabulous tile flooring, and fantastic furniture to compliment our concept. This is the second time we have hired her and we would definitely hire her again. She has become like a family member and she really understands our goals.

I hired Janice Peters to help transform my living room from traditional to transitional. She did an amazing job recommending furniture, wall decor and window coverings - and the room turned out to be beyond my expectations. Janice even helped me find an area rug for my family room and suggested I paint my staircase bannister and rails a two-tone look. I followed her advice and absolutely love the look of my family room as well. I highly recommend Janice for any design project. She is a true professional, is incredibly talented with a great eye for design, and stays within the constraints of a budget. She was a joy to work with.

Janice is wonderful! She is easy to work with and has a great eye for colors that will compliment each other. We initially used her for paint colors and were very happy. I called her back when we were looking at flooring. She is not pushy and worked to help me find products that would meet my needs and taste. Her expertise saved me time and frustration. She found me a product I really liked which was superior quality, and at a better price. I would highly recommend Janice for your decorating needs. She is a gem!
