We bought Duncan's contemporary craftsman in Stow, MA and have been living in the property for about 18 months. This is the first house we've owned in which no space goes unused. I credit that to Duncan's craftsmanship. Every space has abundant natural light, is comfortable, and has enticing character. We love it!

We have been so impressed with Duncan's design and execution skills that we hired him for 4 separate projects on our house. He did an outstanding job with (a) a room division, (b) living room/basement redesign (new walls & ceilings), (c) complete bathroom replacements, (d) a major addition of a garage & mudroom with many challenges including reconfiguring the driveway and building retaining walls. Each job had its own set of unique challenges which allowed Duncan to shine. His designs were comfortable, pleasing and artistic. Every day we appreciate the character and comfort he has added to our home. Recently, Duncan has designed and built 2 of the most interesting houses in our town, Stow. I love that he focuses on beautiful, unique, artistic homes. It is such a nice contrast to the generic, cookie-cutter homes that you see everywhere today. So if you are looking for a renovation or addition with style, I highly recommend Duncan.

We loved the work Duncan did in building this home! The thought process during the building of the house was extraordinary. Sunshine comes into the home at planned times of the day and ideal sightlines bring in the outdoors. We love the way that he preserved the natural landscape and that when one looks out the windows, the inside of the house rolls right into the outdoors!

I've used Thorne Design Build for a couple significant projects. In both cases I couldn't have been more satisfied with the outcome. While the quality of work Duncan and his team do is exceptional, I would say his greatest asset, and the reason I will use him for my next project, is his creativity and vision. He brings creative ideas which I hadn't considered or thought possible and works with you to tune them to your tastes.

Duncan Thorne Design Build has done quite a bit of work for us including a bathroom rehab, a 2-car garage with loft, and a deck with stairway going down our steep hill, which are much admired by neighbors. We are very happy to recommend Duncan Thorne and his company. One of the outstanding things about Duncan is his ability to envision changes to your plan that are nothing but brilliant. While respecting your wishes, he can see that a tweak here, or a major change there will result it something that is even better than you imagined. Duncan's workers have always been pleasant and obliging to us. Duncan is frequently on site directing them and the work proceeded with good coordination.

Duncan is incredible! He has done three major projects for us, including a $150k two story addition, and three ~$5k projects. Everything he says is 150% honest, and absolutely filled with integrity. He is a gifted designer- and a great architect (without the actual Lic., but years at an Arch. sch.) He can do everything...really! He prices are very reasonable. He does computer 3d modelling on really complicated projects, but his real gift is making great design recommendations, which come from his instinct of the location and the issue at hand. You never need to worry about him or your project if you decide to work with him...he's that good!

Thorne Design & Build designed and built 3 projects in our Victorian home - a kitchen remodel, basement transformation and full construction of a study and loft. I did not want to stop remodeling! Each project was unique, creative and beautifully designed and constructed. Duncan (owner), worked closely with me to understand my interests for each space and then designed something that met our aesthetic interests and budget. - The kitchen featured a built in nook, reclaimed wood and a stain glass window. - The basement included water proofing, an acid stained concrete floor, and reclaimed pieces for cabinet doors. - The study featured a live edge desk, a full custom ladder to a sweet loft, pipe railing and a diamond large window.
