Scala did a great job on a full renovation of our Minneapolis home built in 1910. The home had not been inhabited for several years, had not been renovated in decades, did not have a functional kitchen, and only had two semi-functional bathrooms. Scala completely designed and rebuilt the main two floors, changing the home to a more open floor plan, building a new kitchen, and 3 1/2 bathrooms. They rebuilt the staircase, added an electric fireplace and mantle, and custom builtins in the main space. They created a master suite with an ensuite bath and walk-in closet. They restored window trims and moldings to the original style throughout the home. As a trained architect Joseph was able to design the space based on our ideas and sample pictures. He is a true craftsman and goes above and beyond in terms of attention to detail. His wife Erika coordinates design selections, and has a great eye, she was able to find selections for us that we liked based on sample pictures. They are lovely people, and we always enjoyed visiting with them when in town. Managing a project of this scale from afar had its challenges, as did working with a house this old. We had many change orders and construction issues we had to work through. The city of Minneapolis permitting office did not make it easier! Joseph and Erika and their crew persevered and we have ended up with a lovely home.

Update: Unfortunately, my experience with this contractor changed significantly after work began. The project proceeded without a written contract or formal proposal, and communication became difficult. Work quality was inconsistent, timelines were not met, and I later learned that subcontractors had not been paid despite my payments for electrical and plumbing. I also experienced unprofessional interactions that made the situation stressful to resolve. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend that homeowners ensure all agreements are in writing, verify subcontractor payments, and proceed with caution.

Scala Design did house painting, floor installation, and deck repair/refurbishment at my house in Minnetonka, MN in 2021. It took a lot of time - probably a total of 9 months before they finished. I was out of town, so it wasn't such a burden for me. Part of the problem was the supply chain was messed up, but I'm not sure of the other reasons. Their work is very good, however,; my only complaint was how long it took.

About the timing that the project took, please remember we order flooring and other components for your house that were delay affected by the Covid shortage of products and some issues that arise when we where working at your home that were part of the issues found after removing texture. Even though we work during this health crisis, we were able to deliver all the concepts and the results were beautiful!
