Ellen Smith undertook a renovation/refresh of our entire first floor to coordinate with a kitchen remodel, choosing all finishes and furniture for family room, living room, dining room, powder room, foyer and stairway. Trade work included hardwood floor refinishing, new french doors to outside, drywall to replace wooden paneling, painting, custom built-in cabinetry and bookcases, new crown molding, chair rail, fireplace mantle build up, all furniture and oriental rug selection and window treatments design and installation. She managed the trades persons on the job and smoothed over any questions before they became concerns, Looking back on Ellen's design choices, we know that she saved us homeowners from ourselves a few times with our less-than-optimal suggestions, thus saving us thousands of dollars of regrets had she not diplomatically stepped in with better alternatives. My husband is completely sold on the concept of hiring a skilled design professional. .We are still very, very satisfied on all levels with her work. One of the lasting attributes is her coordination of color flow and how each room can stand on its own, but is completely compatible with the spaces it is adjacent to. As with many homes, our rooms all flow from the the heart of the house, the kitchen. She is a dream to work with - calm and efficient, with great personal warmth. Ellen is sensitive to incorporating a client's family possessions into a refreshed design, which in our case was a vintage hooked rug and several small antiques and artwork. We told her we wanted casual and "cozy" as the design aesthetic and she translated that into very welcoming, inviting spaces. Ellen worked with my contractor when I redid my kitchen. She helped me with style, layout, and color choices. She did a great job in understanding my tastes/styles and making suggestions that worked for me.

Every aspect of this project came in under budget and was finished before our deadline. We added upholstering the chairs, after we realized how easy it was to work with such an efficient and competent designer. Ellen Smith measured the windows on site and had fabric available for our choosing within a week. Couldn't have been easier. She chose the paint colors for the walls and oversaw the painting. We have worked with Ellen on several projects with great success. The most recent involved renovating a family room / kitchen to a more open concept by removing a wall. We also updated the kitchen, added new tile floors, as well as updates to several bathrooms. The entire house was painted with a fresh new color palette.
