From in Form (FIF) has designed and built our family a multi use cabin and currently is working on a larger remodel/update of our home. Working with FIF has been professional and a joy. They are artists and craftsman, excellent builders, engineers and philosophers. They have deepened the meaning of building and creating space/shelter for us and helped us navigate what can be a daunting (yet exciting) experience. Most importantly they want to make their clients happy and work in collaboration and relationship to achieve this goal.

I reviewed from (in) form after the completion of our whole house renovation in 2016. Unfortunately I can no longer stand behind my recommendation and five star score. I have deleted that review as the house has not withstood the test of time. We have had very significant structural and water damage to the house secondary to shoddy construction practices. The time, money and disruption to reinstate the integrity of the house, by another contractor, has been considerable.

from [in} form did an AMAZING job on our home renovation. We live in a 1960's contemporary home which needed a lot of updating inside. They did the following work for us: They transformed two strangely connected upstairs bedrooms into a beautiful, open and inviting master bedroom and bathroom. They took advantage of the window configuration that was already in the two bedrooms, and installed new windows with such precise interior execution as to not need any interior trim. This adds to a sleek modern look and an airy feel. There is an elevated reading area, and a large walk in closet next to it, they stopped the interior wall bewteen the reading area and the closet short, so that they could incorporate uplighting in between. It is so cool. The master bathroom is a hidden oasis. It is a large bathroom with high windows for natural lighting. We have an eight foot double shower with a feature wall of marble tile that expands the entire back wall of the bathroom. They figured out a way to angle the floor just slightly so that the water drains perfectly with no visible drain. Downstairs we had a diamond in the super rough....a daylight basement that we knew had potential but we had no idea it could become what it did. Jason and Adrienne worked with us to turn this previously darkish somewhat freaky space that had a drop ceiling with weird heating vents running all over it, into the lightest, happiest room of our home. They pulled down the ceiling and suggested to just keep the exposed beams which gave the room a much bigger feel. For lighting they put in bulbs in between every other beam - the lights are installed parallel to the ceiling, rather than the normal perpendicular, so the light glows between the beams. The flooring is a smooth, industrial grade epoxy (I think) that looks like deep water. Hard to explain, but really, really interesting. They also redid a downstairs bathroom in that room and reconfigured it completely and changing one wall into glass (frosted) to take advantage of the light coming through the daylight basement windows. With the removal of the heating ducts, they also had to re-think how to heat the basement, the upstairs master bedroom and another small room downstairs. They did this by installing energy efficient heating/cooling units in each of those rooms. Additionally, they renovated an old storage room, turning it into a home gym (same epoxy floor, removal of all old built ins, heating unit, paint) and gutted and redid a main level powder room. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience working with from [in] form and would highly recommend the company to anyone, without any reservation. They worked closely with us, they took account of ALL of our input and came up with interesting cost-efficient ways to incorporate our wishes, they were extremely transparent and detailed with their billing/pricing and they were absolutely respectful of our home and our family during the renovation. They showed up every single day, never left us hanging, never left us questioning when they were coming back or finishing up. It was an outstanding experience and we could not be happier with our home.

To whom it may concern: I reached out to Jason and Adrienne at from [in] form in order to solve a spatial and aesthetic problem. There were conditions in my apartment that I wanted changed, but were too big and too complex to do myself. I was aware of them through Jason's architecture teaching at RISD, where I was a graduate student in Fine Art, and he had worked on a great project in my building for a neighbor. I was concerned that maybe my project was too small for a architecture firm, but initiated a meeting, and they assured me that no project was too big or too small. They helped me redesign the layout of my loft apartment, centered around the relocation and redesign of an existing spiral staircase. The spiral stair was not only an eyesore, but it was poorly located, blocking light and taking up prime real estate on my second floor. As an artist myself, I had very specific ideas what I wanted and didn't want, and Jason and Adrienne were wonderful and patient with me in that I expected to be very involved in the design process. We were able to work together to come up with a gorgeous solution, which is now the most beautiful feature of the apartment, and draws light into the darker area of the loft instead of blocking it. They were willing to take all of my drawings and ideas into consideration on the design. They took my ideas and made them "real" and made them "work". They oversaw in-detail the complicated preparation, fabrication and installation of a custom steel and wood staircase. It was impressive. Their design also reconfigured the flow the the entire space by carefully placing it in a new location that I had not imagined, ultimately doing much more than just serving as a staircase. They were indispensable in regard to navigating rules and regulations, permits, city codes, and inspections. They were on-time and on-budget, and readily available if I had any question, request, or concern. Working with them was a very satisfying experience, as both an artist AND a homeowner. I had set out to replace a staircase, and though my conversations with them about what I hoped to do, ended up with an entire remodel, a new bathroom upstairs which I never thought was possible, and a re-configured kitchen which is a vast improvement. I would say their design directive is expansive and visionary - them came in to see about a stair, and ended up looking into solving a number of challenges in my space with just a few moves. They are also keen and focused when it comes to the details and practicalities. They were very flexible when I wanted to adjust or modify their initial designs. They made it possible, almost, for me to be a guest designer, which I realize is no small feat. Working with them was informative, engaging, and a true collaboration. Jason's experience as a master craftsman and a builder is the perfect compliment to their architecture and design skills, and is rare and valuable. Their firm is very personal and warm, and it seems that community and shared creativity is a high priority for them. They have a great team, and I would absolutely work with them again. In fact, I'm not sure I would work with anyone else. I have brought them/their team in since then on some smaller tasks and for a variety of questions and advice. I recommend them very highly.

Jason and his team are amazing, highly skilled professionals. With just a few improvements, our home has a completely updated look that fits our style. Jason's design and craftsmanship are the best!
