Recently retired from the military and relocating back to NC, we decided to "support local" for an AIA accredited architect to help design our custom floor-plan for our retirement home in the outlying New Bern area. What a HUGE and COSTLY mistake we made. We gave Sarah, from GO Architectural Design complete architectural freedom to help design our forever home based on our design criteria which was specified on her designated form. We also sadly learned through this process, that her preferred communication is via email which is exceedingly problematic, and has been proven to be inefficient and extremely costly to us, as a consumer, when designing a custom home. After over SIX THOUSAND dollars ($6,000) of her "billed time” as well as over the course of more than 8 months, she failed to deliver ANYTHING close to what we wanted nor put any real thought into the function or flow of the home. One would think that is the primary function of an AIA accredited architect. We were completely astonished as she constantly blamed us, the consumer, for her failures - going so far to belittle my spouse on several occasions. Never before in my U.S. Army Corp of Engineers career, have I ever dealt with such an argumentative and dismissive business "professional." If you're looking for a remodel, then maybe this company might work for you, but if you're looking for a custom home design, I would ABSOLUTELY recommend finding someone else for your forever home.

After our Carriage House in downtown New Bern was significantly flooded during Hurricane Florence, Sarah was the only contractor brave enough to take on the challenge of helping us raise and restore it. She presented our design plan to the local Historic Preservation Committee and as a result of her expertise, patience and guidance we couldn't be more pleased with the results. After Hurricane Florence, we contacted Sarah to draw up plans to open up first floor since it was completely gutted. We are from out of state so it was difficult to imagine finding the right people to put the house back together. Go Design Go Build took care of everything for us! We approached Sarah and GO Architectural Design about a year ago and asked her to design a custom home for us. We gave her a general idea of what we wanted, and she went to work. Sarah listened to what we said and channeled our vision into a wonderful design. Her knowledge of the area and the designs that best fit our vision was priceless. She sent us a basic design and we'd get back to her with our ideas and revisions. Then Sarah incorporated the ideas and revisions into the design and sent new prints right back to us. This was important because we lived 400 miles away and couldn't just drop by to go over things. After a while our dream home began to take form. What impressed us was Sarah's professionalism, and her ability to take in what we struggled to define by turning it into a design that was exactly what we hoped for. As a matter of fact, the final design was even more beautiful than we expected. She was always on time and on budget. We never had to call to see what was happening. Everything that she proposed to us was delivered exactly when it was supposed to. The quality of work that we received was top notch and better than what we would have received from more expensive Architects. We are in the process of getting our dream home built and hope to live in it soon. We knew our home needed updating, but we didn't know where to begin. Sarah and Kayla sat down and really listened to what we wanted to do. They took photos and measurements the first meeting, and then we sat down again to go over some of their ideas. They did an amazing job picking colors and designs that were perfect for us. When we asked for a couple changes, they came up with even better ideas. They kept within our budget, met our time frame, and even offered contractor suggestions when we asked. We would highly recommend them.

From our very first meeting Sarah and Kayla were wonderful to work with. They not only guided us with their expert advice but we're very flexible with incorporating our ideas.
