We have been extremely happy with the quality and service provided by Steven Handelman Studios. In remodeling our 90 year old mediterranean home we needed high quality, period designed fixtures to enhance the beauty of the home. Steve’s designs were perfect and reflect the quality and craftsmanship we desired. The chandeliers, sconces, fireplace screen look beautiful in our home. Steve and Trisha are great to work with and truly deliver to satisfy the customer. Recently we needed a custom designed valance for our windows. Steve gladly worked with us and spent the time and provided the creative energy to take our ideas and transform them into a beautiful and functional valance design. Beautiful studio and wonderful products, however, we experienced communication issues. We enjoyed an in-person visit a few months ago, and received the full attention of Mr. Handelman and the sales manager. Afterward, however, we found it difficult to obtain information from a distance, for example, regarding the expected delivery date when our items shipped. But our lighting was installed recently - it's stunning - and I circled back to place an order for five additional fixtures. I did have multiple questions about various fixtures I was considering, but was unable to obtain more than than cursory information. The website states, "We will gladly assist you with your style selection process and recommend the correct size for each choice....You can also call, or send pictures to get assistance with choices and size recommendations" but we hit a brick wall here. Email responses from the sales manager were lightening-fast, but incomplete and abrupt to the point of hostility. I tried to call but was placed on hold. I subsequently emailed asking for Mr. Handelman to call me, but never received a response. I have since found a very similar company even closer to home who are consistently pleasant to work with, happy to answer any and all questions, and also have a more up-to-date website and order process. I would have given Handelman three stars because their work is lovely, but according to Houzz three stars signifies "pretty good overall" and I definitely can't say that.

I asked my design community to recommend a lighting source for my Spanish Revival home in the SF Bay Area, Steven Handelman Studios was the name put forward. Although out of my territory, it was worthwhile making the road trip south to check out the studio. What you see in the showroom is just the start of the conversation. Do you want seedy glass? How long do you want the chain? What perfect shade of brown rust? Trisha will be there to expertly guide you... and then ask ceiling height so that it’s in proportion to the room. Steven helped me reimagine original candle sconces with a new custom backplate. He came up with the idea of an arabesque pattern that I wish had considered earlier, but my project was too far advanced to backtrack. These people are a creative, thoughtful crew. Highly recommend.

Worked through our architects and Handelman Studios to build and supply the main lighting for our kitchen, dining room, and living room when we rebuilt our house several years ago. Fixtures are absolutely of the highest quality and just gorgeous. Working with Handelman for our light fixtures was one of the best decisions we made in the project, and their work continues to shine to this day! Love them, and will definitely call them back in the future to do more lighting work for the house should it ever need it.

I would give Steve more than 5 stars if I could. He is my lighting designer to go to, everytime! Always so helpful, and creative! I can get anything I want from Steven Handelman Studios, any style, any color, and I have been doing this for over 20 years. He is still my favorite. Tons of service, always, all the time! My projects come out amazing, nothing better than the best lighting! His lighting changes with the times, there are always the classicals, but he always comes out with new lighting styles.

Steven was one of the first to begin filling a gap in the decorative lighting industry: carefully crafted, high quality, authentically detailed wrought iron fixtures in traditional European and Early American styles. Some of the best, traditionally styled homes and commercial projects we have designed have incorporated Handelman fixtures and/or custom fixtures we designed but which were fabricated by his studio.

My wife and I have worked with Steven Handelman Studios to rewire/restore several antique lights for our 1927 Spanish Colonial home in Glendale, CA. The work has ranged from rewiring, to manufacturing canopies, to design and manufacture of custom bracketry, to patina matching for repairs. Each piece was done with great care and to an incredibly high standard. They have an extensive collection of lights of their own design and as well as general ironwork that they produce right here in California, but also can do any custom work or servicing you need. To top it off they are super people to work with and their showroom is dog friendly if you want to visit them in Santa Barbara.

Amazing studio to buy artfully crafted lighting that is far and above any lighting you will ever find. The quality is amazing and the selection of lighting fixtures is unique and plentiful. My husband and I have bought lights from Steve Handleman for about 20 years and for 2 different homes. The lead time is often 3-4 months but it is so worth it to wait. The last house we sold we had about 20 fixtures from SH and it really added to the value of our house. We hated to part with the fixtures when we moved but we are also glad the new owners are enjoying the beautiful lighting. We have recently purchased 4 lights for our home in SB and could not be happier!

The first time we met Steve he asked that we tell him about our house and the style we wanted. It was to be Spanish hacienda style, but we weren't quite sure whether it would be more rustic or more refined. After a few minutes, he was able to put into words exactly what we were after: Refined because of the Spanish architectural influence, but rustic because it was on the frontier, like Zoro's house! It was a breakthrough for us. With Steve's help we picked perfect fixtures, they were ready when promised, and miscellaneous problems with the installation, several changes, and additional orders were all handled easily. The prices were very good, the fixtures are excellent and look gorgeous in our cabin/ lodge, and the service was very good. As architects living in Santa Barbara, it is our great fortune to have the Steven Handelman Studios in our own backyard. He is an incredible resource for unique lighting and accent fixtures for both home owners and the design community. Prior to moving to Santa Barbara, we would schedule pilgrimages to the Studios to put the finishing touches on our new projects. Now, that a complete and user friendly website is available, it is easy to stay up on his newest designs and inventory. But if you're ever in Santa Barbara, you still shouldn't miss the opportunity to pay the showroom a visit. Steve will be in the back room working on his newest creations.

Beautiful light fixtures and customizing is easy. We furnished our 12,000 sq ft home almost exclusively with Steve Handelman fixtures and it looks incredible- very true to style.

Our 6 year experience with Stephen Handelman Studios has been one of pure delight! We began in 2008 with a custom order for 3 plant stands which grew to a full accessorizing of of a new home over the last 3 1/2 years when we moved to the central coast of California in 2010. We have purchased, among other things, a pot rack, chandeliers, wall sconces, etc., etc. - all beautifully crafted & finished. The wrought iron products produced by SHS are of the highest quality workmanship & aesthetic beauty in all respects. These are not "off the shelf" items, but individually crafted, custom made orders. The only difficulty we have encountered has been in making a final choice due to the large selection he has to offer. Although Steven produces items on a large commercial scale, he happily takes on the more modest requests of homeowners such as ourselves, adjusting & accommodating for our particular situation & needs. Not only did Steven copy the lights perfectly from only a photograph and measurements I provided, he and his staff were an absolute joy to work with. I FOUND STEVE HANDELMANS WEBSITE AFTER LOOKING VERY HARD FOR OLD WORLD CREATIONS IN LIGHTING AND IM VERY HAPPY WITH WHAT I FOUND. I HAD TWO PROJECTS TO COMPLETE; ONE WAS A LOG HOME I NEEDED INSIDE AND OUTSIDE CUSTOM LIGHTING, AND A PROPERTY OF EQUAL LOG DESIGN HOUSE ON A LAKE FRONT LAND. THE PROJECT LIGHTING LIST WAS TWO CHANDILERS, EIGHT ENTRY DOOR LANTERNS, NINE EXTERIER UNDER ROOF LAMPS, THREE INTERIER SCONCES, FIREPLACE SCREEN, MANTEL CANDLE CANDELABRA AND MUCH MORE. MY LAKE HOME JOB WAS CONSISTING OF SEVEN LANTERNS THAT WERE MOUNT ON TOP OF STONE WALL AND FOUR WALL MOUNT. I ALSO HAD TWO CUSTOM BRACKETS FOR OIL LAMP CHANDILERS THAT WERE MADE TO FIT THE DECOR OF OLD WORLD/LOG HOME THAT STEVE MADE WITH MY IDEAS THAT LOOK SO NICE. We highly recommend light fixtures from Stephen Handelman and been enjoying ours for eight years now. The wide choice of styles, sizes and finishes made it easy to create exactly the Old World look we wanted. Additionally, SH fixtures represented an excellent value considering the level of customization, quality and professional service we received, especially when compared to pricing of other specialty vendors. We ordered over seventy custom light fixtures (chandeliers, interior and exterior lanterns, sconces, flush mounts) and the experienced staff at SH were very helpful and every piece was delivered safely and on schedule. Except for recessed lighting, our home in Pebble Beach, California is illuminated exclusively by SH fixtures. We have added to our collection at least three times and each experience has been equally positive.
