My company Accent Truss was contracted by Howell Builders to provide engineering, and fabrication of the heavy timber trusses and components in a custom home project. This was our first project with Allan, and I was very impressed with the due diligence he performed on making sure we were the right people for the project. Allan was great to work with and pays very close attention to all the small details throughout a project. We look forward to more projects with Howell Builders!

Allan Howell is a low-volume builder of high-end custom homes in the Bluffton, SC area. Our home is a very unique design by Frederick and Frederick Architects, which made construction a challenge. Allan worked effectively with the Architects throughout the project, and utilized the best subcontractors. Allan does not employ project managers and handles those duties himself. He was very good in addressing issues and making changes that were found to be needed during the construction phase. The quality of all materials and the quality of construction and workmanship of our home is simply outstanding. High quality is an overriding priority for Allan. We would rate 5 stars for the home itself, but gave an overall rating of 4 stars because the project took longer to complete than anticipated. Allan is a great choice to build a one of a kind design home, but recognize that a unique design takes time to build.

Remodels can be difficult for an architect. Cost plus is the normal way a contractor works and that leaves our clients exposed. And things always change, the as-built dimensions aren't correct or there's a problem with the existing framing or an HVAC duct that you think is OK needs to be moved. Well, all of those things happened and more, except for cost over runs. Howell Builders had accurately priced the job and included a reasonable contingency and the quality of the work was superb. The new cabinets and trim were artfully fit to existing construction which was anything but straight and true. Allan Howell asked the right questions at the right time and dependably did what he said he would do when he said he'd do it. Would I recommend him? Yes, certainly. I'm actively trying to find another project for him to build for us.

Over the last 2o years , we have worked with Allen on several substantial custom projects. Allen always approches a project with highest quality in mind and acute attention to detail, to produce an outstanding product.
