Konni Tanaka Design Group

We purchased a new home which was under construction In Palos Verdes Estates (PVE) which had magnificent views. We prefer modern décor but the town of PVE requires the outside of every home to have a mediterranean décor. So Konni had the challenge of providing a smooth transition from the outside of the house to a modern interior. Konni did a magnificent job decorating 5 bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, large kitchen, 5 bathrooms, and even storage cabinets for the garage. Before starting, she presented us with a very professional and detailed room-by-room budget. She has both an architectural education and art education so she was able to work with the contractor to optimize the layout. She also introduced us to local furniture makers and customized a lot of our furnishings and built-ins (which she pesonally designed), thereby saving us a lot of money, Her work turned out beyond our expectations. Konni is, in our opinion, the best home decorator in The South Bay and the easiest to work with.

We began working with Konni in June with the initial design concept then finalized in July. We completed the remodel in November. From the beginning we had very tight time lines for the design, demolition to completion. From the start, Konni's knowledge for what was needed, and her ability to meet all facets of the entire remodel and design and completion was nothing short of perfect. We cannot say enough about how she stayed within the budgets set from the start. She is one of the best designers in the entire west coast, bar none! You will not go wrong in hiring her for your design, initial building or complex remodeling needs. We highly recommend her!

Konni listens to her clients, has gorgeous taste and beautiful design aesthetics and concepts, really takes into consideration your budget, AND is a delight to work with. Three years ago, when I stepped into a friend's newly designed house, I asked her who her designer was, discovered it was Konni Tanaka and contacted her. My friend has a different design sensibility than I, but I appreciated the beautiful aesthetics as well as the seamless design and integration between my friend's former furniture and art work and the newly designed house and furnishings that Konni had helped her to achieve. My husband and I had built our house in 1998 and in 2015 he wanted to update our family room entertainment center. I had never particularly liked the design or furnishings of our family room and took his request as a cue to update the entire room. Konni came to our house and I was immediately impressed with her initial suggestions and that she listened to us. I have worked with a number of designers in the past and found that many like to impose their perspectives and design concepts, sometimes with little regard to the client's likes....or budget! In redoing the cabinetry, lighting, flooring, and furnishings, we faced a number of interesting challenges. For example, the entertainment center and pieces my husband wanted had to be built in cabinetry that had a different footprint from the original cabinetry. The problem was that we had travertine tile throughout the room and there were several feet of new footprint that would require new floor covering. However, we had no additional travertine tiles to install in the new footprint. My experience with designers is that many would have suggested expensive alternatives such as replacing the entire floor. Konni, however, loved the travertine and suggested using different flooring material which would add interest to the cabinetry and create an elegant solution to the problem. Not only did it create a beautiful alternative piece of artwork (as you can see from the attached photos), it also was an extremely cost effective way to solve the problem. Of course, another important issue to me was ensuring that the newly remodeled/ refurnished family room "coordinated" with the design spirit of the rest of the house. Once again, Konni did a superb job in ensuring that the design flow from our kitchen and dining area to the living area were seamless and coordinated. Another important issue was budget: In dealing with previous designers, my husband had joked that "our budget was no obstacle" to them. Konni was different. She was conscious about our budget and always showed us various options. I have since referred Konni to several of my friends. One friend recently finished building, designing, furnishing her new house and she used Konni's services in the process. Bottom line: My friend's house won a regional design award. I believe that no matter your budget or your style, Konni will be an excellent designer to work with.

We asked Konni to advise us on interior design and the purchase of furniture for a house we bought in Palos Verdes. We had recently returned from an overseas assignment and did not ship any of our old furniture, so we were basically starting anew. Konni spent time to get to know us and our likes and dislikes and suggested a range of options, both in style and cost. She listens well and is easy to work with and we liked her sense of how things fit together. We were most pleased with her services. We found Konni on Houzz.

Konni worked with us on our living room, family room, entry, and dining room. We ended up with a beautiful design that was very functional and in our budget.

Konni Tanaka Design Group was hired to provide interior design services to our new home, with an ultra modern style. It turns out that ultra modern didn't really work for us and what we ended up with modern transitional style with an Japanese flair. We are very please with the results and liked the choices selected for us from an otherwise overwhelming universe of choices. In the case of the color and material choices for furniture and wall coverings, we probably would never have thought of choices but again, are very pleased.

Because our remodel plan was done before engaging Konni, she had to work around some issues that she probably could have addressed with us had we been more educated regarding the role of an interior designer. That being the case, she did an AMAZING job of working with our architect, contractor and craftsmen. We had challenges because of the necessary placement of steel beams (had to relocate the fireplace and some windows), stairwells, narrow spaces, and of course, our vision of what it should all look like in the end! She seemed to know intuitively what we were after and her designs were always right on. Her patience with the contractor and craftsmen was remarkable. It all came together and we couldn't be happier in our 'new' home. We could not have done it without her!

I was greatly impressed that her deign was always created based on psychological nature of Human. She has a lot of sources for material to create her images. I always enjoy working with her.

We consulted with Konni to develop a design for the entry area in our Honolulu home that would meet the feng shui requirements. She gave us some great ideas and options. Now everything is "flowing smoothly." I would highly recommend Konni for her conceptual design talent.

I'm not a big believer of feng shui but I have been proven otherwise! Since I'm in a small house, everything needs to be carefully considered and so I went to Konni for ideas. She measured all of the rooms, and the backyard and even asked for the birthdays of the entire family. Then she came back with some ideas for both the interior and the landscaping outside. Some of the suggestions we still haven't implemented. BUT she recommended changing the position of the bed because she suspected my husband was not sleeping well and it totally worked.
