We purchased a beautiful lot in the Overgaard Arizona area and wanted a spectacular cabin built to suit our needs. Michael Rust, Architect, provided the design plans that not only incorporated our needs but went above and beyond our expectations. From our first interview with Michael we knew that he was the right choice to design our dream cabin. Michael patiently took us through the design process, assisted with our contractor interviews, and was invaluable during the entire process from design through implementation. Michael’s knowledge, vision, and practical experience enabled him to ask the right questions, listen, and provide the expertise to realize our new summer home. He captured not only the typical requirements of size, rooms, floors, etc., but also the feel, flow, functionality, etc. that makes a house a place where you just seem to belong when you walk in the door. This collaboration resulted in a home that is a sanctuary for us and a favorite gathering place for friends.

We met Mike after an internet search for the LIFE 1997 Dream House plans led us to his website. We had always enjoyed Frank Lloyd Wright designs. While Mike had the plans we had sought he had other ideas as well. We went to Phoenix to meet with Mike and visited Taliesin West with him. He had trained there and it was an educational experience both about Taliesin and Mike. We decided to move forward with Mike. He was very helpful and patient with us during the process. We have a finished plan and our local city engineer said it was one of the most comprehensive plans he has seen. Renderings of the house helped us to better visualize what it should look like when finished. We are in the construction phase now and so far so good. Building a house is not for the faint of heart and Mike has helped make the design process easier and has been very helpful to our builder.

We hired Michael Rust to design our new education building at First Baptist Church of Chandler AZ. Michael listened to our needs and came up with a concept that matched our budget. Working closely with Michael and the general contractor we were able to complete the building on time and came in on budget. Michael added a very professional viewpoint that the other architects we interviewed did not show. Michael and the general contractor worked with all of the subcontractors to keep the cost of the building within our tight budget. Will look forward to using Michael on our next building expansion.

I highly recommend Michael. When I first contacted him I was nervous because I had a small project. But I am a big fan of Frank Lloyd Wright and Michael Has Wright’s design aesthetics. Michael couldn’t have been more kind, easy to work with, and well - funny lol. On top of that, his design for my issue - an ugly attached garage - was amazing. I get constant compliments. And he was also much more affordable than I expected. I look forward to the day of him designing a house for me.

I was hesitant to contact Mike because I had a small, relatively low budget project. My house had a large garage that was not that attractive. It was also focus point, taking away from the attractiveness of the house. To my surprise Mr. Rust was receptive, kind, funny, and humble. He told me immediately to call him Mike. He came up with a design that was amazing, and completely transformed the garage into a cohesive unit with the house. Not only were his rates reasonable, but his work was quick. We commissioned Mike Rust to design our new house, with few preconceived concepts of our own, giving him great latitude to be creative (we basically said "please wow us with something"). Our experience with Mike was a complete pleasure and words cannot express how highly we regard and recommend him. We learned to place full trust in his vision and rarely second-guessed him - we told our builder to follow the plan faithfully and ask Mike for advice when needed (we quickly realized that Mike had a great vision for what the house should be and we always tried to follow his plan and his suggestions). We selected Michael Rust precisely because he has a demonstrable record of practicing organic architecture whereby he develops for each client a structural design that seamlessly integrates the structure’s form and details with the client’s particular requirements and life style activities. At the outset of our working relationship, Mike established a clear, well constructed and understandable design development process that facilitates the comprehensive specification of a client’s life style requirements and preferences and simultaneously stimulates comprehensive thinking about the best means of encompassing those requirements and preferences in an organic, home design. Mike immediately established excellent rapport with us, listened well and carefully to our comments, ideas and instructions and enthusiastically guided us through the design development process. He always paid close attention to design details, found answers to all our questions, endeavored to incorporate all our ideas into the design, but cautioned us about design directions when caution was appropriate. At every step in the design process, and, in particular, when design challenges were encountered, Mike proved to be an excellent problem solver, finding creative solutions to what seemed initially to be intractable problems. Mike assembled an excellent team of engineers, structural, mechanical and civil, and brought their special insights and contributions into the design mix precisely when required. After we selected a contractor, Mike worked closely with him, giving due consideration to the contractor’s practical construction insights and incorporating those insights where they enhanced the home without ever compromising design integrity. Mike was timely and responsive in all his communications, always well prepared for all of our meetings and was respectful and considerate of all involved parties. We were provided in a timely manner with interim drawings for our review, and, at the end of the design process, Mike prepared excellent, detailed drawings that easily passed regulatory review. We are very pleased with all aspects of Mike’s performance in the design of our home. He is a creative, organic architect, who bases his designs on his clients’ requirements, provides guidance, suggests possibilities, presents options and, in the end, provides a design that completely expresses the clients’ preferences and requirements in an imaginative and innovative manner. The entire design process lasted approximately eight and one-half months.

Mike Rust did a Frank Lloyd Wright style remodel of the living room of my 1950's era split level home in suburban New Jersey. Mike was excellent to work with all the way, from initial computerized renderings through final touches. Mike worked closely with my local contractor who oversaw the project. All deadlines were met and were within budget and scope of the work. I was very pleased with the end result and would not hesitate to work with Mike again in the future.

We have worked with Mike Rust on a number of projects and he is really the only one that we would have design a housing project or addition for us. Our styles mesh which also makes it easy to work with him. Mike designed our FLW house and it is unbelievably pleasing to the eye both inside and out. He was able to position our house on the lot in such a way that we have maximum views which another architect might ignore by focusing only on the house. He is now designing a FLW courtyard to adjoin the FLW house he designed for us. We are a huge Mike Rust Architect fan! Mike has intimate knowledge on the designs of FLW and I am sure other organic architects, so I would recommend him highly.
