About Us

Handcrafted Historical Furnishings | Serving Napa California Area
Mendocino Heritage Furniture Co is a saw mill and furniture shop hosting one of the largest collections of rare and exotic Redwood on the planet. Inspired by their father’s appreciation for the historical beauty of old growth Redwood, the Crowningshield brothers began their search for these lost giants. Their passion for this incredible wood grew as they worked for over two decades to reclaim massive logs from the river bottoms and forests of Mendocino. Because of the limited availability and exquisite qualities of this wood, each piece is unique, custom handcrafted and hallmarked in Mendocino by the Crowningshield Brothers. Most of our products are made with rough milled lumber, hand sanded smooth to the touch, oiled and assembled. Leaving the original saw marks and industrial scaring serves as a reminder of the history embedded in each piece.

My wife and I were really stunned by a small table we saw last year in Mendocino. It had an epoxy finish and depicted a river flowing through it. We ended up buying it, and after a little thought we asked if we could have a sofa table made to match. It arrived at our home and reflected the same superior craftsmanship and artistry that we saw in the end table. These guys are dedicated to turning out only the finest work; they are artists and craftsmen, who deal with magnificently resurrected discarded wood from one of the most beautiful forest areas in the country. We have asked for another end table, and I envision at least a few more projects after that.

MHF does great work on a variety of projects, just some of my pieces are shown From picnic tables & benches, through AV cabinets and office desks, I'm a repeat customer and MHC is my first stop on any woodworking project. John and Steve are easy to work with, listen to what I want, and deliver fabulous pieces. They work through the wood, not against it, and create pieces where "Heritage" is actually a value and not a slogan. On a technical level, the work is also excellent. I have a beautiful redwood picnic table that sits outdoors year-round, and over the years, besides developing a deep, dark, luxurious finish (not a dry gray, typical of redwood) it remains tight and rigid, secure while 10 people sit to enjoy wine, cheese & the outdoors. I couldn't be happier with Mendocino Heritage Furniture!

The dining room table that we purchased from Mendocino Heritage Furniture is so stunning that when we saw it we knew it was something we needed for our home and we even enlarged our dining space to accommodate it. I have no doubt it will be in our family for generations. The wood is so special—I can’t believe we even own something so unique and spectacular. The Crowningshields were a pleasure to work with. I have so much respect for the way they approach their craft and the world. It is clear that they honor the history and the beauty of the wood that they use. From planning to delivery they were extremely professional. I feel so lucky to own a piece of their furniture and I cannot recommend them highly enough.

My wife and I happened on a small gallery in Elk, on a rainy winter day, and fell in love with a redwood table on display. We called Steve about a custom dining table, and he produced the "center piece" of our home.

We are a winery in Anderson Valley, and we have our table beautifully displayed for all of our guests. It's a beautifully crafted table as well as a beautiful piece of art. We get many compliments on it, and we are so proud to have it at our winery.
