Your project was a unique and imaginative one, and we were excited to take it on. We worked closely with you to shape your design within the parameters of a limited budget, which required some compromise on materials and methods. For example, you specifically requested that we avoid using rock or mulch, and due to budget constraints, the full removal of sod in the figure-eight path was not feasible. You had also indicated that your dogs were on the way to removing the grass naturally, which led to our suggestion of tousling rather than removing the sod entirely.
When we visited the site this spring and saw that the dogs weren’t using the space as expected, we offered several cost-effective solutions—including reintroducing grass in low-use areas, adding obstacles like rock to encourage engagement, or using vinegar to help suppress regrowth. These ideas were presented with the intent to help adapt the space without adding unnecessary cost.
As discussed pre-construction, you are absolutely right that sand has its limitations, it was chosen as a compromise to help meet your wish list and aesthetic goals within budget, and we acknowledge now that it may not have been the best long-term solution for your particular needs.
We take full responsibility for any misalignment between expectations and final results. Our intent was never to mislead, but to maximize value where possible. We deeply regret that this process has left you feeling let down and frustrated.
Your comments will be used internally to improve how we guide clients through budget and material decisions, particularly on unconventional or budget-sensitive projects. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed working with our team on-site and that some elements of the design and installation did meet expectations.
We remain committed to learning from this and are grateful for the opportunity to reflect and grow. Jennifer will be reaching out to you this afternoon.
