Selkirk Design was a fortunate find for me. With their technical expertise I was provided explanations and great resources. I wanted a home that would appreciate and compliment the beauty of my location, yet would be practical with an "aging in place" home design. Phone calls and zoom meetings allowed the entire process to be extremely easy and stress free. I was able to access a talented team (lead by Matt) that worked hard and tirelessly to create the perfect home for me. Not only practical but is also truly lovely. I can't express my thanks enough. Matt did an amazing job bringing my vision to life. Everyone was wonderful! It's absolutely beautiful. Everyone that sees it falls in love with it. It's my little cabin in the woods. I love it. If I needed to do it again, I know exactly who I'd contact... Selkirk Design.

It is with great enthusiasm and pleasure that I write the comments below regarding my experience with Selkirk Design Company. This was a residential high end home design with an accompanying shop. The home was 4,300 square feet, the shop 1,800 square feet. The shop matched the home architecturally. This team took our vision and created a home beyond what our vision was. Most importantly, from my perspective, was that they listened to me. They were patient as I explained what I was trying to achieve, offered suggestions - without being forceful - and responded promptly with idea's that exceeded what my vision was. We were designing from out of State and the way they conducted zoom meetings with illustrations, floor plans, etc., made it easy to visualize what was being created. And when I had difficulty "seeing" what they were working on, the verbal communication along with visual support always cleared up the confusion on my end. NEVER did they address me with anything short of supportive dialog. I can confidently say that without input from this team, our home would not be what it is. This firm is honest and trustworthy. A 5 star rating isn't high enough!

I worked with Selkirk Design this year on floor plans for a cabin in Northern Idaho. Very pleasant team to work with. They were very patient with me as we went through a number of iterations. Krys, the project coordinator, kept on top of everything and was always very responsive and organized. Matt, the owner, was always willing to meet with me via Zoom to explain things. I am a single woman and live out of state, so this was very important to me. I would highly recommend them.

Matt and his team were an amazing partner to build our dream house from the ground up (literally). They are top notch at what they do, really fast turnaround and communicators, along with the attitude to really understand what we are wanting to achieve and brought creative solutions on how to achieve our dreams. Would absolutely recommend them time and time again and use them in any of our future home builds.

I can truly say I have never seen a more streamlined and friendly process than that at Selkirk Design Co! Amongst the unprecedented influx of families looking for a home in the Pacific Northwest and North Idaho specifically it is easy to see the vast quantity of companies offering Architectural Design Services and yet Selkirk Design Co. is a proven front-runner in quality of both Design and customer service. My first impression of this organization was- well, humble. The team isn't very large compared to others I had seen nor was it as pretentious as I anticipated; yet I quickly learned that because of this, the client experience was exceptionally personal and friendly whilst maintaining quality that is competitive with the best. Leading this team is Matt Cudmore, and it became clear very quickly how well he understands not only the needs of his clients- but perhaps equally important- every facet of building in this area. From something as easily overlooked as preventing snow build-up near my driveway, to walking me through exactly how the builders here would prefer every detail- It is clear these folks are passionate for ensuring safety, quality of life, and value. There are quite a few designers in the area and even more a stone's-throw away, but I am willing to bet a meeting with Matt and one of his friendly designers will provide you with confidence that your project will be completed in a timely manner and with great quality. If you're like me, you'll quickly feel comfortable to talk about all sorts of things, share a couple good laughs, and almost forget you are speaking to professional service providers. Just don't be too surprised when they get back to you with exactly what you were hoping for.

We found Selkirk Design Co on Houzz and hired them, based on their portfolio and glowing reviews, to design our custom home near Moscow, Idaho. I'll add one more glowing review to the mix. Matt Cudmore and his deisgn team were thoroughly professional and knowledgeable and extraordinarily patient with us as we sorted through options and honed in on a beauitful design. Ours was a long process as we were starting with undeveloped land, so every decision from where to put the road and dig the well to the home site and septic field were up for grabs. Matt guided us at every step of the way from the big picture to details such as where to place the kitchen range. Working with Matt and Italo, we went through a lot of drafts, as we narrowed down the possibiities and tailored it to our family needs. They never rushed us or complained when we asked for changes. It was a true collaborative process, where we provided ideas and they the expertise (and ideas too!). Matt is an architectural designer /draftsperson, so we needed to have the final design reviewed by a full stamp architect, but that was a smooth, easy process, because Matt has a strong civil engineering background and knows what will fly. Early on we considered going with a more high end, full stamp architect, but it would have cost so much more, and I didn't want someone to just run with it and do their own thing, but rather a collbortive partner who could meet us in the middle, and Matt and his team provided that. They accommodated our vision, but weren't afraid to tell us when an idea wasn't practical, or there was a better way. The staff are all very nice and professional as well. It was easy to schedule meetings, which sometimes went two hours, as they made time for whatever we needed to disucss and Matt drove down from Sandpoint for two site visits in the early stages. If you want the most innovative, trendy design on the block, they may not be for you, but if you want someone who will really listen to your goals, and work with you, I couldn't recommend them more highly. Our house is under construction now, and it's shaping up to be all we dreamed it could be.

We were excited about working with Selkirk design, but it ended up feeling like they "phoned in" our project, used stock plan, and, after we turned the project over to our contractor, found many, many errors with the plans--some just silly (drawings showing vents on exterior where there were structural beams) to significant--such as beams that did not connect, were undersized (engineer corrected and did not bill us, but Selkirk billed us for fixing their error(s)). Our contractor had to go back to the architect several times for corrections. Moreover, we had provided specific direction to the architect about the style we were looking for, and the first plan the architect sent back to us has a complete timber/northwest feel rather than what we had very clearly specified was the intended style. Having worked with two different architects since, we became even more aware of how poor the service was. Other architects provided us with detailed finish legends, did multiple revisions to plans, and provided quality plans--whereas, Selkirk did not even provide us with detailed finish schedules (they provided us with a "design board"--which was an 8x10 electronic piece of paper that entirely consisted of snippet photos that we had provided to them). Matt is a super nice guy and I think pretty sharp--he passed our project off to an associate, and while Matt presumably reviewed his work and missed all of the details that our contractor found, it ended up being a poor product. There are lots of design-build contractors out there and I would recommend using one of them (which, in hindsight would have given us as good of product or better, for far less expense) or going with a more sophisticated architect.

Great experience working with these folks. They listen well and have great recommendations. Very responsive to what the ultimate goal is.

Lived in Sandpoint for over 40+ years. Selkirk design helped us with two builds and would give them an A+ on communication and follow through. Really enjoy working with Matt and the team.

You won't find a more collaborative team! Ideation to drawings, Matt and company were thoughtful and informative along the way as trade-offs were made. I highly recommend!

Selkirk Design was the right choice for us in selecting a company to provide us with plans for our Sandpoint 3 car garage and ADU sitting on the 2nd floor of the garage. While providing their expertise, they also listened to our ideas and provided us with an excellent design which seemed to go through city planning with a minimum of issues. They were attentive to our needs and progressed timely on this project allowing us to hit our "target" window as to when we wanted to start the build on this project. Company was very professional and, not only worked well with us the homeowners, but they had a excellent relationship with our contractor answering questions as they arose during the construction phase. Design, communication and follow through was all well done!
