Ron Bates is the consummate professional, able to offer advice and design expertise. We received a detailed bid on the whole kitchen remodel, including even small details that other bidders overlooked or didn't include. It was so easy to see what the costs would be and the quality of the cabinets.
Ron’s design experience was evident in the colors he selected for our project as examples. Unfortunately, this being our first experience in a remodel, we made the mistake of hiring KDC for the cabinets and a general contractor (CG) for the tear out, new tile on floor and backsplash, granite, and installation of appliances. It was simply a decision to give work to two local companies – a mistake. Communication with that CG was difficult and stressful. In hindsight our recommendation would be to hire Ron's company and let him act as the GC. Save the stress and the drama and let the professional designer handle the entire project for you!
Exactly on the date planned, the cabinets were installed with "shadow crown molding" because in Ron's experience many ceilings are uneven and the eye is drawn to the issue. We didn't expect there to be a small space above the crown molding (shadow). We lived with that look for a week or so but decided we wanted the crown to go to the ceiling.
Since the GC wasn't ready on the cabinet install date, he had to set the kitchen island instead of KDC’s cabinet installer. He didn’t consult with KDC or he would have reviewed the baseboard molding that went with the island and been more careful. The nails/screws showed and he decided to create white baseboards which created a distasteful color contrast.
Ron came out and reviewed the project. He agreed to fix the island baseboard issue with larger, matching baseboard at no cost. We paid KDC to put our cabinets to the ceiling and add some minor trim pieces.
We highly recommend him and would definitely use his services again and plan to talk to him about a bathroom remodel.
