Looking at Beautiful Bay Windows
One of the design features that I have learned to love since moving to San Francisco is the bay window. I love looking at these windows from the outside and decorating the spaces they're in from the inside. They are appealing to the imagination.
Bay windows jut out from the rest of a building. This makes them architecturally interesting. I love seeing the way that some bay windows really protrude and stand out from the rest of the building whereas others almost blend in seamlessly to the rest of the home.

These windows are often located in small rooms so you have to figure out a way to make a room filled with furniture work even though the shape of it is unusual. I think it's a fun challenge and the result is usually creative and unique.

I typically think of bay windows as fairly narrow in width but deeper and much more rounded than what we see here. This is an elongated window that isn't very round or deep at all. Nevertheless it is a great place to cozy up and look outside. And I bet the view of this bay window from the outside is pretty nice as well.
These are the bay windows that I am used to seeing in San Francisco - round roomy windows that jut out on Victorian style housing. These homes are the reason that I fell in love with bay windows in the first place!
Most of the bay windows that I see in the San Francisco Bay Area are fairly dramatic when viewed from the outside. However, as we can see from the subtle protrusion of the bay windows on this house, the design does not have to be bold to be interesting.
I love the unusual exterior of this bay window. The fact that there is an awning over it makes it really stand out. In fact, at first glance I thought that the window here was the front door! I also like the native plant garden outside of it which draws more attention to this pretty part of the home.
This is a really interesting twist on the traditional bay window. It's called a "garden window" because, as you can tell, it pops out of the side of the house and straight into the garden. It's a charming way to add a bay window to a cottage house. I like it!
The kitchen is one of the most ideal spaces for a narrow bay window. I love the idea of adding a window seat inside of the bay window like we see here. It doesn't even have to be very deep to create a great little niche for dining in natural sunlight.
Bay windows aren't always for seating. Sometimes they hold cabinets. The neat thing about this is that you can put really cool big items on display here and your neighbors can see your artistic side when they look up at your windows from below.
I love the idea of really making a bay window stand out when you see it from the inside. Framing it with curtains is a terrific idea! Plus you can close up those curtains and cuddle up inside the window area.
One of the things that you learn when decorating a space in San Francisco is that you need to use the whole room. That's because most rooms in this city are so small. In a place like this, you wouldn't set the window apart like in the last great image but instead would incorporate it into the rest of the room with furniture and decor pieces.
Bay windows can be totally chic and modern. The best way to achieve this is to go with an angled bay window. However, even a round window can look modern with the right furnishings around it.
