Made offsite, precast concrete increases quality and decreases installation time
Precast concrete is poured into forms and cured offsite in a controlled environment before being transported to the building site as a way to increase quality and decrease lag times for installation. Precast concrete fixtures can be found in kitchens and bathrooms; the material is also used for slabs, beams, columns, walls, stairways, pavers and modular boxes such as garden planters.
The pavers and planter box caps of these patio steps are made of precast concrete, whereas the wall and planter boxes were poured onsite.
Precast concrete can be finished in a variety of textures by using fine or course aggregate. It can also be tinted, as these pavers are.
These steps around the boulder look looked like they were poured in place, but the pavers are actually precast concrete.
Fabricating precast concrete in a controlled environment means the mix is consistent and therefore less likely to crack.
