Often, a small powder room is found off the main foyer to a house. In this project, we collaborated with the homeowners to make a great statement about the owners themselves. Elegant lines and subdued colors in the foyer are contrast against this splash of color and bold paneling and bolection molding -- a bit of surprising personality is tucked away waiting to be discovered.

Made with a traditional Clive Christian construction using a square framed door and recessed panel detail with bolection moulding, it maintains the highest level of Clive Christian integrity & quality.

A classic egg-and-dart motif surrounds the honed absolute granite of the dining room fireplace with bolection moulding and mantel shelf above protrude from paneled walls centered between a built-in cabinet and French doors to a hallway beyond.

A Mediterranean-style, traditional kitchen featuring classic bolection-molding on cabinet drawers and door fronts. Spacious island combines panelized column legs with the bolection-molded cabinetry. Mansard-style, faux plaster range hood sports corbel brackets and rope-tile molding. Grapevine motif decorates the tile inlay, which frames a colorful embossed rooster. His twin sits on the island. The custom built TV cabinet with a contemporized Chippendale grid on the door panels offer a unique style and counterpoint to the kitchen panel design, yet the coped molding and paneling remains consistent. The bookcases house a modern tv, allows for display and closed storage. The cabinet is integrated with the room architectural elements furthering the overall design of the larger spatial gestalt. The “faux” columns shown in the before picture have been eliminated in favor of paneled wood columns against the walls to open the space and provide visual bearing for the beam. Rug, paint, drapes, cabinetry and furniture conspire to present a whole beautiful, functional and welcoming. We can see how the collaboration of design professionals and traditional cabinetmaker may offer a unique living environment.

Bolection molding: As shown here, the gentle curves and depth of classic bolection molding—a Midland specialty—provide the perfect finishing touch for traditional kitchen cabinetry. The great 17th century English architect Christopher Wren brought bolection into and forever in the public eye, though in the beginning that “eye” was the royal one. Kensington Palace and Hampton Court remain classic examples of Wren’s passion for bolection, which by definition is molding that protrudes beyond the face of a panel or frame. Photo by Rusty Reniers

Details matter to any successful interior project. Note the cabinet detailing: true columns separating the TV display area from the enclosed bookcases, the base board integration with the cabinet, the careful proportion of the cabinet’s end panel, the fitted flush doors, the door panel Chippendale “X” with its careful integration with the doors’ cope mold, the finishing panels above in different planes and the way the base wraps the columns at the bottom. Though at first glance the effect is not apparent each of these has upon the whole, if one could see a picture of the same functional item beside it we would understand why design and detailing makes an enormous difference in our environments.

This spacious laundry room is conveniently tucked away behind the kitchen. Location and layout were specifically designed to provide high function and access while "hiding" the laundry room so you almost don't even know it's there. Design solutions focused on capturing the use of natural light in the room and capitalizing on the great view to the garden.
Slate tiles run through this area and the mud room adjacent so that the dogs can have a space to shake off just inside the door from the dog run. The white cabinetry is understated full overlay with a recessed panel while the interior doors have a rich big bolection molding creating a quality feel with an understated beach vibe.
One of my favorite details here is the window surround and the integration into the cabinetry and tile backsplash. We used 1x4 trim around the window , but accented it with a Cambria backsplash. The crown from the cabinetry finishes off the top of the 1x trim to the inside corner of the wall and provides a termination point for the backsplash tile on both sides of the window.
Beautifully appointed custom home near Venice Beach, FL. Designed with the south Florida cottage style that is prevalent in Naples. Every part of this home is detailed to show off the work of the craftsmen that created it.

Rooms were reorganized and the original formal living room is not the new primary suite complete with a renovated fire place mantel and surround designed by Clawson Architects. Bolection moulding, new mantel and tile fireplace surround, update the room.

Celebrating the Neoclassic aesthetic, face-mounted bolection mouldings provide a classic detailing, delicately blending with the modern. These are scaled to suit the door’s proportions.

With a challenging room shape and awkward recesses, the concept of the kitchen design was shaped for ergonomic space between the island, hob, and fridge walls, allowing ease of activity zones.

Framing the function, the round teppanyaki knobs are encircled with this moulding which then cleverly hugs the curve towards the ovens. Echoed above on the rangehood panel, the face mouldings likewise follow the curved form softly reflecting morning light into the kitchen room; emphasising light and shadow.

The dedicated coffee zone integrates a hot water tap; another workspace for family to independently prepare. The custom black steel frame and reeded glass are mirrored here to match the table support.

The kitchen transformation showcases a visually stunning, richly detailed and highly functional space for the homeowners.
