Smokey turquoise glass tiles cover this luxury bath with an interplay of stacked and gridded tile patterns that enhances the sophistication of the monochromatic palette. Floor to ceiling glass panes define a breathtaking steam shower. Every detail takes the homeowner’s needs into account, including an in-wall waterfall element above the shower bench. Griffin Designs measured not only the space but also the seated homeowner to ensure a soothing stream of water that cascades onto the shoulders, hits just the right places, and melts away the stresses of the day. Space conserving features such as the wall-hung toilet allowed for more flexibility in the layout. With more possibilities came more storage. Replacing the original pedestal sink, a bureau-style vanity spans four feet and offers six generously sized drawers. One drawer comes complete with outlets to discretely hide away accessories, like a hair dryer, while maximizing function. An additional recessed medicine cabinet measures almost six feet in height. The comforts of this primary bath continue with radiant floor heating, a built-in towel warmer, and thoughtfully placed niches to hold all the bits and bobs in style.

The three-level Mediterranean revival home started as a 1930s summer cottage that expanded downward and upward over time. We used a clean, crisp white wall plaster with bronze hardware throughout the interiors to give the house continuity. A neutral color palette and minimalist furnishings create a sense of calm restraint. Subtle and nuanced textures and variations in tints add visual interest. The stair risers from the living room to the primary suite are hand-painted terra cotta tile in gray and off-white. We used the same tile resource in the kitchen for the island's toe kick.

Built in 1940 and remodeled by us in 2016, this home features a classic layout filled with character. A vaulted tray ceiling in the master bedroom creates volume and expands the elegant details within the project. Wipeable leather seating surrounds a very large extension table in a family-friendly dining room. Built-in storage was added to both sides of the dining room and painted wall color to maintain light and flow from the open living room. The HVAC system is buried in the base of this particular cabinet. Cesar-stone was used at the built-in counter tops for ease when serving buffet-style and the LED under-cabinet lighting is on a dimmer to set the ambiance. Our client wasn't ready to leave the home she loved, but a change in her health had made the upstairs bathroom harder to reach, and the main level didn't have a full bath. We converted one bay of her three-car garage into livable space, which gave us the room to build a fully accessible bathroom, a walk-in closet, and a proper mudroom and laundry on the level she actually lived on. Wide doorways. Heated floors. A curbless shower with a drain that disappears under the wall. Aged brass grab bars that read like jewelry rather than hospital equipment.

Inspiration for a coastal kitchen remodel in Bridgeport

Built-in deck components are becoming more popular as people expand their indoor living to the great outdoors. The bench seating and planters were constructed using the same material as the deck, Fiberon's composite decking - the ProTect Advantage line in 'Chestnut'. Planter boxes, like these, add visual interest and can soften the angles of a deck or patio. Fill planters with colorful flowers, tall ornamental grasses for privacy, or fresh herbs or vegetables that are only steps away from the outdoor kitchen!

This transformation started with a builder grade bathroom and was expanded into a sauna wet room. With cedar walls and ceiling and a custom cedar bench, the sauna heats the space for a relaxing dry heat experience. The goal of this space was to create a sauna in the secondary bathroom and be as efficient as possible with the space. This bathroom transformed from a standard secondary bathroom to a ergonomic spa without impacting the functionality of the bedroom. This project was super fun, we were working inside of a guest bedroom, to create a functional, yet expansive bathroom. We started with a standard bathroom layout and by building out into the large guest bedroom that was used as an office, we were able to create enough square footage in the bathroom without detracting from the bedroom aesthetics or function. We worked with the client on her specific requests and put all of the materials into a 3D design to visualize the new space. The aromatic properties of the cedar are delightful whether it's being used with the dry sauna heat and also when the shower is steaming the space. In the shower are matching porcelain, marble-look tiles, with architectural texture on the shower walls contrasting with the warm, smooth cedar boards. Also, by increasing the depth of the toilet wall, we were able to create useful towel storage without detracting from the room significantly. This entire project and client was a joy to work with.

The original ranch style home was built in 1962 by the homeowner’s father. She grew up in this home; now her and her husband are only the second owners of the home. The existing foundation and a few exterior walls were retained with approximately 800 square feet added to the footprint along with a single garage to the existing two-car garage. The footprint of the home is almost the same with every room expanded. All the rooms are in their original locations; the kitchen window is in the same spot just bigger as well. The homeowners wanted a more open, updated craftsman feel to this ranch style childhood home. The once 8-foot ceilings were made into 9-foot ceilings with a vaulted common area. The kitchen was opened up and there is now a gorgeous 5 foot by 9 and a half foot Cambria Brittanicca slab quartz island.

The completely openable walls allow the homeowners to truly open up the living space of the house, transforming it into an open air pavilion, extending the living area outdoors to the private side yards, and taking maximum advantage of indoor-outdoor living opportunities. Taking the concept of borrowed landscape from traditional Japanese architecture, the fountain, concrete bench wall, and natural landscaping bound the indoor-outdoor space. The existing master bath was functional but lacked artistry. With an eye toward maximizing the client’s budget, the existing vanities were only replaced instead of being completely redesigned. The client’s goal was to have a large shower, yet maintain space for a tub. The new expanded shower was placed where the bathtub used to be. The luxury shower features a five-head shower system, including a body spray, a rain head, and two adjustable shower heads. Custom tiled shelves and new awning windows were designed to seamlessly integrate into the geometry of the Cappuccino marble tile. Dark Emperador marble is an accent stone placed on the shelves, the wall cap, the shower seat, and the shower curb. A stone trim band adds detail around the new windows.
