Our team began the master bedroom design by anchoring the room with a dramatic but simple black canopy bed. The next layer was a neutral but textured area rug with a herringbone "zig zag" design that we repeated again in our throw pillows and nightstands. The light wood of the nightstands and woven window shades added subtle contrast and texture. Two seating areas provide ample comfort throughout the bedroom with a small sofa at the end of the bed and comfortable swivel chairs in front of the window. The long simple drapes are anchored by a simple black rod that repeats the black iron element of the canopy bed. The dresser is also black, which carries this color around the room. A black iron chandelier with wooden beads echoes the casually elegant design, while layers of cream bedding and a textural throw complete the design.

Based in Michigan full-time, a network television executive and his wife wanted a comfortable haven to escape the cold months in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Empty nesters, they wanted a spot where their adult children could all come together to gather and connect as a family. The mediterranean-style home, located in a prestigious country club community, was in desperate need of modernizing when we saw the space. The home was dark and dated, with Tuscan style details, an awkward floor plan and mustard walls. A wonderful before and after story, the home is now a vibrant, beautiful, open and contemporary space, designed by Krista Watterworth Alterman of KRISTA + HOME. The master bedroom of this South Carolina mountain home is swathed in natural light, beckoning its owners to rest and relax. Rich taupe moldings add depth, contrasting with the ivory plaster walls and ceiling. Punctuating the ceiling are exposed beams that have been stained to coordinate with the walnut-stained hardwoods that blanket the floors. An iron bed stands on an Oushak rug in shades of vanilla and biscuit. Almond panels with eyelet detailing hang from the bed’s canopy and coordinate with the skirt. Bedding in white, cream and taupe is layered to create sumptuous texture. Flanking the bed are ebony chests with serpentine fronts. At its foot, a traditional bench with black Queen Anne legs is covered in a damask chenille. Antique brass lamps crowned with ecru shades have a filigree texture, adding to the room's feminine air. A convex mirror hangs above the bed, reflecting the light washing in through the ample windows and doors. Suspended from bronze iron rods are sheer draperies embroidered with a floral pattern, allowing sunshine to filter through windows painted Sherwin Williams Black Fox. Woven blinds coordinate with the stain of the beams and control light and privacy. A lounge chair dressed in crisp off-white and trimmed with bronze nails is paired with a nickel side table
