This project was a labor of love by the homeowner. He built the fencing and gate himself and was searching for just the right gate hardware to outfit the cedar gate. He chose the Dark Bronze 8” Thumb Latch with Straight Drop Bar. It seems like the perfect choice for their gate’s design.

An historic estate in the Hamptons, this project called for style-appropriate long-lasting hardware. The arched gates were outfitted with solid bronze gate latches, hinges, and cane bolts. Gates were hung with 4” Solid Bronze Heavy Duty Button Tip Hinges. Solid Bronze 20” Cane Bolts hold the fixed gate in place. The gates had relatively narrow stiles (vertical members) and so the box latch was used. The box latch has a shorter latching arm, which means it can be used on gates with narrow stiles. On the other side is a 5” plate with octagonal handle.
NB: These site photos were taken from an active construction site in the midst of winter. Gates and hardware show rain and dirt.

This double wooden gate included a split into 1/3 - 2/3 to create an enclosed courtyard in the carport area. There were children at the property, and so stoutness of hardware as well as security were of utmost importance. The home is a Craftsman style, and the gates were built to complement that. The hardware chosen was made of solid bronze to coordinate with the Craftsman appearance.

These Enduro Eurospec Architectural hinges are extremely heavy duty and can withstand any weather. If you're in a coastal location, these are the hinges for you. Work well for modern or contemporary gate hardware for a sleek looking hinge.
The installer created a jamb against the stacked rock columns by bolting a wooden jamb into the column. Then he hung the gates on that.

These two cane bolts are installed on the interior of the double driveway gate. The installer drilled holes in the concrete patio to receive the bolts. This is the closed position for the gates, but the installer also created holes so that when the gates were swung open, they could be anchored in the ground.

We were excited to provide an Asian Inspired Gate Latch to Bejar Gate Company in San Diego for a project in gorgeous Rancho Santa Fe. As a family business ourself, we love to learn about thriving companies that are family-owned. Bejar Gate has been in business for 37 years and is the oldest and best known gate company in San Diego County. Three generations of Bejars work there on a daily basis. How neat is that?!

A view from the exterior of the double gate shows the active latch alongside a dummy handle, to present a symmetrical look as you approach the yard.
