Inspiration for a mid-sized timeless u-shaped staircase remodel in Salt Lake City

Replaced Honey Oak railings with a rich dark stained poplar & iron balusters. We removed the rail sections, stained the base plate to match the newels. Left the original oak newels in place for strength & boxed around them with the new poplar & added in the new sections. We spaced the iron balusters in "groupings" of 3 with a single straight baluster between. The baluster style is Gothic.

This is a recent remodel we completed. Unfortunately no before picture but it was a very dated traditional oak railing system. We used Hammered Iron Spindles and a custom Turned Newel Post. The wood is Clear Alder.

Jill Buckner Photography At the top of our clients’ wish-list was a new staircase. To meet their needs, we selected contemporary wrought iron balusters and stained the new staircase handrails the same as the refinished wood floors. Installing a durable, synthetic carpet to withstand heavy use by their beloved dogs was a must. The result is another dramatic focal point in the home. And, replacing a never played piano with a new console table and benches to pull up at larger parties, defines the path to the upstair levels.

This stair is one of our favorites from 2018, it’s truly a masterpiece! Custom walnut rails, risers & skirt with wrought iron balusters over a 3-story concrete circular stair carriage. The magnitude of the stair combined with natural light, made it difficult to convey its pure beauty in photographs.
