For this Boston-area former hunting lodge, featured in Outside the Not So Big House by Julie Moir Messervy and Sarah Susanka, JMMDS created a landscape design that anchors the house in the site and complements its Tuscan-inspired architectural update. An antique openwork wrought-iron gate provides access from the driveway to the courtyard and breaks up the solidity of the stone walls, crafted by an italian stonemason. Situated in Kenwood, Maryland just outside of Washington, D.C., this whole-house renovation reinterprets a 1950s split-level into a rustic French country house. Published 3 times, The French country house plans for this renovation inform and guide the remodel. Short double-hung existing windows of various sizes on a 1950s brick front wall (see below) were replaced by straightforward openings along the front facade. By replacing them with a series of similar openings, the end result is a principled, simple elegance inspired by French country style homes. The rustic application of field stone arches and rough stucco are both inviting and enchanting, echoing French country interior design. Elements of French country home decor complement the home. The traditional French country home design has been widely published, including features in Renovation Style and Maryland Life magazines, among others. One singular continuous walkway runs the entire length of the main front under each of the French doors, and a courtyard created by stucco walls and stone piers create an inner sanctum in the front yard. In the back of the property, added French gates lead to this newly constructed pavilion.

Orange County, CA - A courtyard entry gate is like a front door to a home so proper attention to its design and detailing needs to be taken into consideration. This courtyard entry gate in a Mediterranean style was designed as part of a garage door and garden gate project we did in Corona del Mar, CA. The entry gate borrowed some of the architectural elements we used on the garage doors. For instance the bottom diamond panels which are carved by hand out of a solid piece of wood is a direct feature we used form the garage door design. The wood we opted to use was mahogany and it was graciously stained the same color as the garage doors to pull in the front curb appeal of the home together. Though the garage door design was rather simple the focus of this home was the entry way to the courtyard gate so extra details were used such as the hand-forged scrolling girll used on the front which is backed with a functional rain glass door that can be opened for cleaning or speaking to someone without opening the entry gate. The iron work is exquisitely detailed in a turn of the century neoclassic style with gorgeous finials and scrolls that make the entry gate so elegant! Modern architectural doors are gorgeously used in many renovation projects today. Because this modern home had an authentic Mid Century style with a horizontal layout using doors that accentuated these features was of essence. For instance, the garage doors and gates have horizontally configured wooden slat designs that resonate these fine lines. The garage door features a unique window configuration that offsets the monotony of too much congruency by breaking what the eye expects. White laminate glass was used for interior garage privacy while allowing the inside of the garage to be bathed in light. The steel rim around the windows ties in with the chrome and stainless steel fixtures found throughout the property such as lights and door hardware. The pedestrian gate follows the garage door horizontal slat design to pull in the modernistic style in other areas of the home that required some interest. The gate's dark stain was bejeweled with shimmering chrome handles and stainless, nickel-plated hinges and silver powder coated posts. Some of these elements were brought over from the garage door itself and the courtyard entry gate. So even though modern doors seem simple, they do require attention to details and they add up as you can see from our projects. This Ranch Hacienda hillside estate boasts well over 13,000 square feet under roof. A loggia serves as the backbone for the design. Each space, both interior and exterior, has a direct response to the linear expression of outdoor space. The exterior materials and detailing are rustic and simple in nature. The mass and scale create drama and correspond to the vast desert skyline and adjacent majestic McDowell mountain views. Features of the house include a motor court with dual garages, a separate guest quarters, and a walk-in cooler. Silverleaf is known for its embodiment of traditional architectural styles, and this house expresses the essence of a hacienda with its communal courtyard spaces and quiet luxury. This is one of several custom made gates for a Tuscan Villa style home in Newport Beach, CA. Dynamic Garage Door worked closely with the proud homeowners to achieve a rustic style gate that transmitted the essence of Tuscany's rugged riviera homes.
