The Tice Residences replace a run-down and aging duplex with two separate, modern, Santa Barbara homes. Although the unique creek-side site (which the client’s original home looked toward across a small ravine) proposed significant challenges, the clients were certain they wanted to live on the lush “Riviera” hillside.
The challenges presented were ultimately overcome through a thorough and careful study of site conditions. With an extremely efficient use of space and strategic placement of windows and decks, privacy is maintained while affording expansive views from each home to the creek, downtown Santa Barbara and Pacific Ocean beyond. Both homes appear to have far more openness than their compact lots afford.
The solution strikes a balance between enclosure and openness. Walls and landscape elements divide and protect two private domains, and are in turn, carefully penetrated to reveal views.
Both homes are variations on one consistent theme: elegant composition of contemporary, “warm” materials; strong roof planes punctuated by vertical masses; and floating decks. The project forms an intimate connection with its setting by using site-excavated stone, terracing landscape planters with native plantings, and utilizing the shade provided by its ancient Riviera Oak trees.

The kitchen below was remodeled that the owner had dreamed of for years. She wanted a material that had character but would not cause too much contrast to her backsplash. Ancient Elements Stoneworks was able to help the client find a beautiful material called Normandy. This material not only pulled in the colors from the cabinets and tile but also played off the landscape that surrounds this gorgeous property. The kitchen island also has a unique shape to it. To create more walking area Ancient Elements Stoneworks, help the client and contractor come up with the design of the arch in the corner. Giving this kitchen some extra character while being functional.

Throughout the years Ancient Elements Stoneworks has done a variety of projects from kitchens, bathrooms, to wall caps and even fireplaces. This fireplace surround and hearth create a focal point within the living space. The colors within the Copper Canyon granite pull together the colors from the bricks and the surrounding décor.

Ancient Art of Stone was commissioned by their clients on Gabriola Island, British Columbia, to create these river rock, feature walls and natural stone fireplaces. The natural stone saucers in these natural stone fireplaces and feature walls were gathered around the Pacific Northwest. A polished natural stone basalt hearth shimmers below the heart warming fire. This natural stone fireplace was fully pre-fabricated in our studio and when completed, shipped and installed at the clients home.

Throughout the years Ancient Elements Stoneworks has worked with many contractors helping with housing they are building and their personal houses. For Legacy DCI, we worked with the general contractor and his wife to help bring their dream home a reality. The kitchen has a unique design to it, the homeowners created a U-shape island that had a built-in bench and dining table. Brandon, the owner of Ancient Elements Stoneworks, wanted to make sure the movement through the granite flowed throughout the kitchen. By doing this Brandon and the employees of Ancient Elements Stoneworks were able to create a gorgeous kitchen.

At the beginning of this project, there were several ideas that the clients had in their minds. Ancient Elements Stoneworks was able to help the clients find the perfect fit for them and their home. Medieval is a dramatic stone with warm and some cool tones through it. This material really pulled this kitchen together, it also brought in other aspects of their home. From their custom entertainment center to the gorgeous staircase, Medieval was able to pull it all together creating one incredible space for the homeowners to enjoy for years to come.

The design of external living spaces is known as the 'Al Fresco' design style as it is called in Italian. 'Al Fresco' translates into 'the open' or 'the cool/fresh exterior'. Customizing a fully functional outdoor kitchen, pizza oven, BBQ, fireplace or Jacuzzi pool spa all out of old reclaimed Mediterranean stone pieces is no easy task and shouldn’t be created out of the lowest common denominator of building materials such as concrete, Indian slates or Turkish travertine.
The one thing you can bet the farmhouse on is that when the entire process unravels and when your outdoor living space materializes from the architects rendering to real life, you will be guaranteed a true Mediterranean living experience if your choice of construction material was as authentic and possible to the Southern Mediterranean regions.
We believe that the coziness of your surroundings brought about by the creative usage of our antique stone elements will only amplify that authenticity.
whether you are enjoying a relaxing time soaking the sun inside one of our Jacuzzi spa stone fountains or sharing unforgettable memories with family and friends while baking your own pizzas in one of our outdoor BBQ pizza ovens, our stone designs will always evoke in most a feeling of euphoria and exultation that one only gets while being on vacation is some exotic European island surrounded with the pristine beauty of indigenous nature and ancient architecture...
