She was checking us out after having a bad experience with design services through a different company, and she was so amazed at what we had to offer. We both got really excited talking about her new construction project, which is a second vacation home for the family. She has a really tight timeline and needed to be able to furnish the home in time for the Holidays. It was so awesome to have a big showroom and such a good variety of furniture, to be able to get everything done in a short time. She was so amazed at our selection and also the pricing. Working together was very natural and I was able to quickly determine their needs with functionality, and also cater to the style they were trying to accomplish. The install was completed in time for her family to arrive for the holidays and enjoy ski time and relaxation. I love being able to fill her families needs and show a new resident how awesome Park City design can be.

In addition to gaining storage and study areas, could these twins show off their big personalities? Absolutely, we said! MOTIV Interiors tackled the rooms of these youngsters living in Nashville's 12th South Neighborhood and created an environment where the dynamic duo can learn, create, and grow together for years to come. Design Solution: In her room, we wanted to create a fun-filled space that supports softball, sleepovers, science, and anything else a girl might want to get into. The star of the show is a beautiful hand-printed wallpaper by Brooklyn designer Aimee Wilder, whose FSC-certified papers contain no VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds). That means that in addition to packing a powerful visual punch, they meet our standard for excellent indoor air quality. We also love this wallpaper because it is composed of so many different neutral colors - this room can organically evolve over time without necessarily replacing the paper (which was installed with a no-VOC adhesive). We refreshed the remaining walls with a scrubbable no-VOC paint from Sherwin Williams (7008 Alabaster) and gave the carpets in both of the twins’ rooms a good cleaning and simple stretch as opposed to replacing them. In order to provide more functional light in her room, we incorporated a corner floor lamp for reading, a telescoping desk lamp for studying, and an eye-catching LED flower pendant on a dimmer switch sourced from Lightology. Custom window treatments in a linen/cotton blend emphasize the height of the room and bring in a little “bling” with antiqued gold hardware. Before we even thought about aesthetics, however, MOTIV Interiors got to work right away on increasing functionality. We added a spacious storage unit with plenty of baskets for all of our young client’s animal friends, and we made sure to include ample shelf space for books and hobbies as she finds new passions to explore down the road. We always prefer eco-friendly furnishings that are manufactured responsibly, made with sustainably harvested wood (FSC Certified), and use no glue or non-toxic glues and paints. The bedding in this project is 100% cotton and contains no synthetic fibers. When purchasing bedding, check for the GOTS Certification (Global Organic Textile Standard). The introduction of a desk and drawer unit created a calming space to study and reflect, or write a letter to a friend. An unusual and exceptionally beautiful work of art, the Carriage Crib, like the carriages of old it is modeled after, transports children to a time and place where prancing white horses, flowing gowns, and suits-of-armor are part of daily life. The crib cleverly holds a standard round mattress that is perfect for sleeping, as well as for transporting Cinderella to the ball. The carriage, wheels, balustrades and trim are painted different colors and accented by customizable fabrics for the crib cover and pillows. A variety of accessories, including a colorful, fringed canopy and assortment of pillows ensure the Carriage Crib will enhance fairytale themes and bedroom designs for both boys and girls. SAFETY A sturdy railing encloses the crib to prevent babies and small children from falling out, and meets current crib safety standards. Edges are rounded, and wheels are immobile to ensure the carriage remains stationary. The entire railing is removable, and enables the child to continue to use the carriage as a bed with a toddler mattress. STORAGE The rear suitcase box is used for both storage and as a changing table. A standard changing pad fits perfectly on the top.

A tiny jewel box apartment nestled into the landmarked neighborhood of Forest Hills, this renovation included custom work in every corner. In order to maximize space, uneven walls on the window wall were built out to become storage spaces. The kitchen, clad in a clean solid surface material, houses hidden storage spots. Attention to detail was critical throughout this space. The floors are made of solid, wide plank white oak, and they meet along the main divide of the apartment to form a chevron spine. Our clients owned a secondary home in Bellevue and decided to do a major renovation as the family wanted to make this their main residence. A decision was made to add 3 bedrooms and an expanded large kitchen to the property. The homeowners were in love with whites and grays, and their idea was to create a soft modern look with transitional elements. We designed the kitchen layout to capitalize on the view and to meet all of the homeowners requirements. Large open plan kitchen lets in plenty of natural light and lots of space for their 3 boys to run around. THE SETUP This remodeling project transformed a catchall room into a cinema-style theater designed for family entertainment and relaxation. The original space, which housed a small TV, older furniture, and various children’s toys, was reimagined to create a sophisticated, adult-friendly home theater with ample seating and modern amenities. Design Objectives: Create a Dark Theater Space: Ensure the room mimics a traditional movie theater environment. Provide Comfortable Theater Seating: Include enough seating for the family and guests. Integrate a Dry Bar Area: Include a space for snacks and drinks. Optimize Space Utilization: Maintain an open area for additional activities. Design Challenges: Natural light: The room was too bright for a theater setting. Seating: Accommodating six theater seats without obstructing views. Lighting: Ensuring the lighting does not interfere with the viewing experience. AV: Finding a clutter-free solution for AV equipment. Dry Bar: Incorporating a dry bar area without overcrowding the space. Viewing: Ensuring the TV placement allows for comfortable, optimized viewing. THE RENEWED SPACE Design Solutions: Natural Light Control: Installed blackout remote shades on the back window and painted the walls dark charcoal to reduce natural light infiltration. Seating Arrangement: Built a second level for the back row of seating to ensure unobstructed views for all movie watchers. Lighting Design: Installed sconces on either side of the window that shine from the sides (to avoid interfering with the viewing experience). AV Equipment Storage: Utilized existing recess areas with custom shelves matching the cabinetry and concealed cables using a PVC pipe system. Dry Bar Integration: Created a dry bar area on the back wall with a refrigerator, candy storage, and a small counter space for a popcorn machine and ice maker, with locked drawers to prevent unsupervised access. Optimal Viewing Distance: Evaluated multiple floor plans and placed the TV on the most suitable wall to ensure optimal viewing and comfortable reclined seating. Final Thoughts: The completed home theater has been a resounding success, providing a versatile space for the entire family. The thoughtful design and meticulous attention to detail have created a functional and enjoyable home theater that meets diverse needs, from watching movies and playing video games to relaxing and reading. The areas to the sides of the theater seats can accommodate spillover seating or activity zones. The area housing the AV equipment also includes extra shelves for storing snuggle-grade movie viewing blankets. This theater space has become a favorite hangout spot, offering comfort and entertainment for everyone. This before shows the dramatic transformation from kid friendly to entirely family friendly with a moody sophisticated space perfect for the boys or mom and dad.
