Always wanted a Chesterfield but concern about the maintenance of a cow hide. Introducing our Bison Chester, toughest hide ever created, almost indestructible.
If traditionally tanned leather is considered the ultimate symbol of class and luxury, our Bison series will be legendary. Bison leather averages 40% more tensile strength than traditional cow hide leather, making it an excellent alternative. Since Bison hides are not stretched, they are tougher and more durable than cowhide. However, given some time for the hide to get wear-in, it will be as soft and personal as cowhide in years to come. If you need something near indestructible, insist on Bison. Handcrafted in Europe.
Frame: Handcrafted of kiln-dried hardwood with corner-blocked joinery Suspension: Sinusoidal spring and firm support bands.
Feet: Crafted of solid Birch and fitted with antiqued brass casters (optional) Feet finish and studds varies by leather color.
Cushions: Premium quality fill seat cushions feature polyfiber wrapped around multiple layer high density foam core Optional Down-feather fill seat cushions feature feather and down wrapped around a foam core All cushion backs are upholstered in fabric that allows leather to breathe Cushion configuration varies by frame size.
Upholstery Consideration: Fabric and leather dye lots vary; pieces purchased at different times may not match exactly. Premium white glove delivery.

Falcon House is located on Falcon Ridge Road, which winds along a steeply inclined ridge in a stretch of foothills within Carmel Valley in Monterey County. An old lichen covered barn and split rail, cedar fences characterize this area known as Markham Ranch, and contrast sharply with the preponderance of sprawling, large estate-style homes, many more at-home in the Italian countryside than any landscape of California.
Designed for a young family, Falcon House responds to the family’s desire to live a more modest lifestyle, eschewing overt displays of extravagance for an intimate and deferential relation to nature.
The 3,200-square-foot residence occupies a difficult portion of the northern slope of a hillside, overlooking a verdant valley and oriented toward Castle Rock in the distance. The steep terrain necessitated a compartmentalized plan capable of negotiating the gentle hillock at the center of the site. A corridor bridge spans two pieces of the house, uniting living and sleeping spaces and allowing an existing watercourse to flow essentially through the house unobstructed.
Large panels of glass open the living spaces to the landscape, beneath the deep overhang of a butterfly roof. Operable clerestories placed high on the window-wall allow prevailing breezes to cool the interior spaces. The bedroom wing of the house hugs the hillside as it turns to the west, ensuring privacy from the main living spaces. The sense of seclusion and protection of this wing is reinforced by its lower roofline and its embedment into the hill.
Initial resistance by neighboring homeowners has given way to appreciation, having seen the results of careful siting and a material and color palate sympathetic to the surrounding hillsides. The dwelling embodies an attitude of respect for the landscape, and through that perspective Falcon House has become as natural a part of its environment as the hawks flying overhead.

View from the Northwest. This home is built with high performance walls and roofs, resulting in a very well insulated and tightly sealed home. We implemented a combined heating approach of passive solar and radiant hydronic floor heating, which we call “Sun Smart Radiant Heating.” This system sensibly captures the sun’s energy on sunny days and has two added benefits. The radiant system distributes the sun’s heat uniformly throughout the home and also produces heat during long stretches of cloudy days or extreme cold. This dual heating method is not only incredibly energy efficient, it relieves any worries homeowners may have about living in a home that is heated with passive solar alone.
During the warmer months, the Quinn Creek Home is designed to benefit from passive cooling, a free home air-conditioning strategy. Also, carefully designed roof overhangs and awnings prevent unwanted solar heat gain in the summer.
The windows used for both passive solar heating and passive cooling, provide beautiful views and connect the inhabits to the ephemeral qualities of the outdoors. The experience of living in a passive solar home changes from day to day, season to season. The windows also provide ample natural day lighting, even on cloudy days, which significantly reduces electric lighting costs and reduces the occurrence of falls and depression within the home.
The surrounding mountain and hillside slopes of the Quinn Creek Home were carefully analyzed and integrated into the design and roof pitches. Even though this photo is in color, winter light conditions often create a black-and-white-like effect. The darker and lighter colored metal siding and roofing colors were purposefully chosen to help the home blend with the environment during the changing seasons.

When this sweet family of three welcomed their new baby girl, they immediately outgrew their 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom home. The primary goal for this remodel was to add a master suite addition on a modest budget.
Because the budget was a concern, the original plan was to add the master suite with an entry of the existing kitchen. Though this would have certainly been a simpler project, it was not the ideal layout for the home. With careful planning and materials selections, we were able to stretch our clients' budget to give them more square footage and a layout that was much more functional and better suited for their home.
In order to create a layout that made sense, the existing bathroom needed to be relocated to allow for a hallway leading to the new space. We were then able to design an addition that included a master bedroom, closet, and bathroom - as well as a new hall bathroom and an expanded and remodeled kitchen.
The clients wanted a clean, updated look - however, the functionality of the space was the top priority. In order to keep costs down, the clients were happy to select affordable finish options such as pre-fabricated vanities, fiberglass tub and shower units, vinyl plank flooring, and stained (rather than painted) kitchen cabinets.
The clients are fortunate to have a very large backyard to allow for the addition with plenty of space left over for entertaining outdoors. They were thrilled to finally have a master bedroom that they did not have to share with their infant daughter.
