This one-of-a-kind 2,400 SF condo unit is located in Allison Island. The 2-story first floor unit has a direct view of the bay with floor-to-ceiling windows that blend the exterior with the interior. The large terrace allowed for a beautiful landscape design with citrus trees and lush plants, including artificial grass and natural stone floors. With the 40” x 40” white glass tile throughout, the living area in the unit was amplified. The kitchen counters were dressed with Calacatta Marble and stainless steel appliances for an impeccable clean look. The custom doors were done incorporating exotic cherry wood with etched glass details, adding a warm detail to the space.

Cathie Hong InteriorsWhat started as a kitchen and two-bathroom remodel evolved into a full home renovation plus conversion of the downstairs unfinished basement into a permitted first story addition, complete with family room, guest suite, mudroom, and a new front entrance. We married the midcentury modern architecture with vintage, eclectic details and thoughtful materials.

We updated the previously poorly renovated Mediterranean style to match the original midcentury architectural style with a Japandi twist to best reflect the homeowners' cultural and stylistic preferences.

Cathie Hong InteriorsThis artistic and design-forward family approached us at the beginning of the pandemic with a design prompt to blend their love of midcentury modern design with their Caribbean roots. With her parents originating from Trinidad & Tobago and his parents from Jamaica, they wanted their home to be an authentic representation of their heritage, with a midcentury modern twist. We found inspiration from a colorful Trinidad & Tobago tourism poster that they already owned and carried the tropical colors throughout the house — rich blues in the main bathroom, deep greens and oranges in the powder bathroom, mustard yellow in the dining room and guest bathroom, and sage green in the kitchen. This project was featured on Dwell in January 2022.

Cathie Hong InteriorsHaving moved from a smaller home into a much larger space, our clients needed help picking out finishes like flooring, paint colors and lighting. We then went on to furnish and accessorize all their main living spaces and bedrooms in a style that was both modern yet timeless. We incorporated the work of independent local artists to create a layered home that represented our clients and their style. We are so proud of the haven we’ve created!
Cathie Hong InteriorsThis project was a complete gut remodel of the owner's childhood home. They demolished it and rebuilt it as a brand-new two-story home to house both her retired parents in an attached ADU in-law unit, as well as her own family of six. Though there is a fire door separating the ADU from the main house, it is often left open to create a truly multi-generational home. For the design of the home, the owner's one request was to create something timeless, and we aimed to honor that.

We kept the furniture simple and clean with a Scandinavian bent, changed out kitchen pendants and stools to make it more modern, and transformed the adjacent room to a bright home office. We also created a sweet and simple nursery for their newest addition.

They were so pleased with the desk setup for the kids, that we created a similar workspace for their office. In the midst of designing these living areas, they had a leak in their kitchen, so we jumped at the opportunity to give them a brand new one. This project was a true collaboration between owner and designer, as it was done completely remotely.

They traveled to Copenhagen at the onset of their trip, and that trip largely influenced the design direction of their home, from the herringbone floors to the Copenhagen-based kitchen cabinetry. We blended their love of European interiors with their Asian heritage and created a soft, minimalist, cozy interior with an emphasis on clean lines and muted palettes.

Cathie Hong InteriorsThis 1956 John Calder Mackay home had been poorly renovated in years past. We kept the 1400 sqft footprint of the home, but re-oriented and re-imagined the bland white kitchen to a midcentury olive green kitchen that opened up the sight lines to the wall of glass facing the rear yard. We chose materials that felt authentic and appropriate for the house: handmade glazed ceramics, bricks inspired by the California coast, natural white oaks heavy in grain, and honed marbles in complementary hues to the earth tones we peppered throughout the hard and soft finishes. This project was featured in the Wall Street Journal in April 2022.

Cathie Hong InteriorsWe had a tight timeline to turn a dark, outdated kitchen into a modern, family-friendly space that could function as the hub of the home. We enlarged the footprint of the kitchen by changing the orientation and adding an island for better circulation. We swapped out old tile flooring for durable luxury vinyl tiles, dark wood panels for fresh drywall, outdated cabinets with modern Semihandmade ones, and added brand new appliances. We made it modern and warm by adding matte tiles from Heath, new light fixtures, and an open shelf of beautiful ceramics in cool neutrals.
