Small contemporary brown one-story mixed siding exterior home idea in Charlotte

This was a slightly odd shaped island (hopefully, the owners agree) and raised bar that we built an African mahogany countertop for. The countertop is 1.5" thick and built as an edge grain top (we specify .75" to 2" strips that run the full-length of the countertop, so no butt-joints). This countertop is finished in our food safe mineral oil that allows the owners to cut/chop directly on the surface. This top also features our Roman ogee edge treatment. One thing to note about this countertop - the homeowner was looking for a deeper red color so we built and finished the countertop and then parked it outside on a sunny day to allow the sun to deepen the color. This sped the patina process that would have happened naturally in a six-month-to-a-year time frame. Typically, freshly machined African mahogany has a more pinkish/salmon hue.

We were wanting a wood blind that could give some contrast with the painted trim and warm up the room. The Hunter Douglas 2" Parkland Weathered Blinds were the perfect look. We chose a darker stain with some texture and color variation to get that modern rustic feel we were looking for. We did a clean lined Artemis valance across the top for a sleek finished look. These blinds gave the room lots of warmth and character.
