Inspiration for an eclectic freestanding desk carpeted study room remodel in Austin with gray walls

We made this room multi-purpose as a game room and workspace. We added a built-in with a custom butcher block countertop and chalkboard paint backsplash. This built-in provided needed storage with the base and upper cabinet. We painted the cabinets a light taupe to compliment the light wood floors with black chalkboard paint and black contemporary hardware. Of course, we needed a space to hold snacks and beverages, so we created a built-in dry bar to house a microwave and fridge. We finished out the dry bar in the same design as our built-in workspace to allow for a cohesive design. We added a comfy sofa and chase sectional in a neutral performance fabric. We ground the room with a large area rug in contrasting grays and creams. We added a contemporary coffee table, console, and game table. And lastly, added fun game room art.

The boy's room in this single family home includes boyish striped bedding that appeals to multiple ages, and incorporates a vintage feel with the artwork, accent pillow, clock and lamp. The showstopper in this room is the chalkboard paint, swathed between two squared white trim pieces, which we further enhanced by drawing a dotted line implying that the car was in fact driving around the room.
