Gus* Modern | Spanner Lounge Chair - Light Birch with Red Originally created in 1950 by Russell Spanner, the Lounge Chair with Arms has become a classic of Canadian Mid-Century Modern furniture design. Out of production for more than 50 years, Gus* worked in collaboration with the Spanner family to revive this iconic chair, carefully matching the construction, materials, and design details to stay true to the original in every way. The seat is woven strapping, and the frame is solid birch with exposed bolts and finger-joint details. Like the original, the Lounge Chair with Arms is built in Toronto and available in a variety of finishes. To commemorate the return of this design classic, the first 100 chairs produced will be part of a numbered, limited edition series. The Manor Cove Residence was carefully edited to restore and respect its modern character from 1983. Over time the purity of the home’s design had been lost, and the floor plan was not up to date for current lifestyles. Careful attention was paid to create a harmonious vision for the architecture, interiors, and landscape of the project. A new color palette now graces the home inside and out for a seamless flow from interiors to the landscape creating a gallery-like atmosphere to showcase art, while large format windows crafted from Mahogany open the home with expansive views to the private landscape. The interior Millwork is crafted from the same wood adding warmth and sophistication. When our analysis of the existing conditions revealed the extent to which the house’s many previous additions had failed to enrich each other or unify the whole, the scope of work bloomed to include extensive renovations throughout the first floor. We’ve sought to bring a cohesion and clarity to this already commodious house quite beautifully sited. Much of the design attention in this project was focused on meetings and overlaps. The autonomy and dignity of individual spaces was restored with the creation and use of interstitial spaces; the spaces between. The doorway between kitchen and dining becomes a display pantry and wet bar, the entry foyer is framed with a narrower opening, and the way to the Living Room is re-shaped with a paneled deep jamb.
