The clients had an existing deck and decortive corner pergola structure that was built over 20 years ago by Creative Wood Products. Time and the elements had taken their toll on the structure and some of the decking areas. We replaced the entire corner pergola with one that looked similar with the only changes being to make the structure sturdier for their chain swing that they hang off of it . Rather than have them go through the expense of replacing all of the decking ( which after 20+ years will still in very good shape across the majority of the deck ) we cut off the areas of comprimised wood and reframed the substructure to accept a feature strip at the bay area . This allowed us to replace the areas of bad material and make it look like a design feature that was always there. It saved the clients considerable expense, and when stained to match, will look great. The corner pergola is now much more stable and ready for years more of relaxing in their chain swing underneath it. With their home framed by a beautiful forested backdrop, these clients were motivated to create a luxury environment that would extend the livable area of their house and help them utilize their cherished backyard — one rich with trees and manicured gardens. As seasonal changes transformed the beauty of their property each month, these homeowners wanted a space that invited them to be a part of nature, year round. For people who valued their privacy and a quiet environment, it was vital this project took into consideration changing conditions: from shifting sunlight and shade to surrounding noise.

Breezy Coastal-Inspired Hearth Room Sustainable, natural, wholly engaging, and a showcase for their cultural pieces and art was the concept for this home. The couple wanted to use sustainable and environmentally friendly products throughout their home as much as possible. Being from both California and Florida, they wanted a coastal influence that didn’t look contrived or over-stylized in a Midwestern home. Also, they desired a serene, peaceful space where all senses were engaged. Incorporating the Feng Shui elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water in color, texture and product choice was used in this design. A problem area with the original room was a large, blocky oak fireplace. The top half was removed and the hearth was painted white, opening up the space considerably. The back wall was painted a serene blue as an accent. An overall neutral palette of taupe, blues and grey balanced the wood tones found in the flooring and teak accents the couple acquired on their travels. We recovered their existing love seat with taupe diamond-stripe cotton in a slipcover style, adding to the casual atmosphere of a beach house. Organic cotton, hand-blocked pillows with red cherry blossoms provide a pop of color to the seating. A swivel rocker gives flexibility to multiple focal points and conversation. The 100% hemp rug has a turquoise oversized damask print and is a plush anchor to the hearth setting. A long grey-washed rattan bench serves as a cocktail table and woven Roman shades provide needed contrast to the back wall. A distressed, reclaimed bench sits below bold art as a bright accent area to an overall neutral space. The centerpiece of the room is a large cerulean blue buffet with fretwork & glass doors. Chicagoland Home Products showed a Lincolnshire homeowner how to eliminate expense on their custom closet without looking as if cost was even a consideration. Often, backer panels are used in an application like this so you can’t look through the installation and see the walls. By painting the wall in this space to match the color of the system instead, there was no need for the panels. As you can see in the pictures, the illusion of an attached back wall is very realistic. The savings on the project is real too! The African Walnut finish, which is just one of many choices, provides depth and power to the master closet. Raised Panel fronts contribute to the richness of this design as do the Chateau handles. This custom designed closet also features ample hanging space, convenient open shelves and two drawer banks with doors above the drawer tiers. Even a mudroom can be tasteful, as you can see with the featured Aria finish, accented with Contempo fronts and brushed chrome handles. Mudrooms often become the place where castoff cupboards and cabinets go to die. This is not the case here and, certainly, the finished, clean look of this room just doesn’t happen unless experts work with you to discover your needs, analyze the storage space available and take cost into consideration. A mudroom is not a mudroom unless it has convenient space for boots and shoes as you notice here. A handy built in bench provides a spot to sit and slip off the footwear and an immediate place, right under the seat, to put it. Just above the bench, handy storage hooks take care of the things that you want hanging around and easy to get at for their next use. Coats, sweatshirts, jerseys will be waiting when you need them and, more importantly, where you can find them. Open shelves, right next to the hooks, catch whatever you want to pitch there. Sometimes, the things you want to store for the next use need to be behind closed doors and the cabinetry and drawers provide a place for hats, mittens, gloves. You can even have designated drawers for sports equipment. One more touch tops off the project – a staging area—right when you step into the mudroom. So convenient, that it almost defies clutter.
