Traditional Cape Cod home in Menlo Park consisting of 7,500 square feet designed by JPH Design. Beautiful woodwork and finishes provide a warm and inviting home. Wrap-around patio with large covered area with heaters and fireplace create a cozy gathering place. Light and bright basement with media room, guest quarters and wine cellar complete the home. Menlo Builders was contracted to build the home and manage the implementation of the landscape and grounds which were designed by John Aldrich. The home has many nice features including automated lighting, whole-house sound system, solar panels for electrical production, a dumb-waiter, and a pizza-oven/BBQ.

The project involved opening the ceiling on the ground floor of a 1930s duplex and replacing the plaster finish with a gypsum ceiling system. Aluminum electrical wiring was also replaced to conform to current standards, and the existing lighting was exchanged for new pot lights in all rooms. Once the ceilings were opened, an acoustic, soundproofing insulation system was installed to absorb interior noise from the second floor of the duplex. The soundproofing system consists of blown wool insulation, padded with a thin layer of air between it and the gypsum ceiling finish, along with the installation of resilient bars.

The electronics featured in this media room are very cutting edge. A Wolf Cinema projector with a Variscope lens allows us to set up the most popular aspect ratios and project a brilliant light on a 143" diagonal screen. We utilized the latest pre/pro from Integra as well as Class D amplification from Bel Canto. The Integra incorporates Audyssey digital correction circuitry, which measures the room’s properties/acoustics and maximizes the sound in the room. The sources include an Oppo Blu ray player, AM/FM, DirecTV HD and AppleTV. The entire system is controlled by an RTI touchscreen remote for easy, intuitive control. The sound is effortless and it is a match made in heaven. The room consists of two rows of seating. The front row is a very comfortable pit seating group and the second row utilizes leather theater chairs. All of this leads to a well-appointed, acoustically superior media room. Rat Island, it's a 2.5-acre land mass off the coast of City Island in the Bronx. This eco-boutique resort is part of the greater Long Island Sound only 30 minutes away from Central Park. The project consists of a group of floating cabins / house-boats along the outer edge of the island.. Large windows offer water or inland views. The design intends the island to be carbon-neutral and sustainable. The island also includes a small marina with a 2-arm floating pier system for 12 boats and a potential arrival for the NYC water taxi. There is an old existing canal that cuts through the South side of the island which will be used for access of small boats and canoes arriving directly into the island and under the main building.
