Our team prepared a custom subframe system designed to support the aluminum composite panel (ACP / ACM) gutter cover while allowing for thermal movement and long-term durability. The aluminum composite panels were fabricated with folded edges and return details to fully conceal fasteners and create sharp, continuous lines along the roof perimeter. During installation, each panel was carefully leveled and aligned to maintain consistent joints and a seamless visual flow across corners and transitions. Special attention was given to edge detailing, underside coverage, and integration with the soffit and wall finishes. We teamed up with the owners so they could create their dream kitchen and spacious living area. A bearing wall would require removal. First we shored up the second floor and roof, and relocated heat and return-air ducts. Electrical, removed from the bearing wall, was relocated. The steel was delivered into the home. A 24 foot steel beam and two posts were then anchored to the foundation. A steel beam was installed across the dinette ceiling, resting one end on the new post anchored to the foundation and the other end resting on the newly installed beam. A series of distinctive cupboards, specially designed around the material NewspaperWood, characterized by a sound and finely detailed construction. NewspaperWood is a new material invented by Mieke Meijer, developed together with the Dutch design label Vij5 and now produced and distributed by a new NewspaperWood company. It returns newspapers, which are made from wood, into wood again. When a NewspaperWood log is cut, the layers of paper appear like lines of a wood grain or the rings of a tree and therefore resemble the aesthetic of real wood. Breg Hanssen, the designer of the Framed cabinet, was fascinated especially by the indeterminable but distinct colour of the NewspaperWood material. To emphasize this quality he decided to incorporate NewspaperWood into a piece of furniture by combining it with contrasting colours. With this he literally ‘frames’ the material in coated steel. Some of the best advertisement a contractor can get for their company is a return customer. DCI recently did a full home renovation for a client that included a kitchen, master bathroom, and flooring install throughout the home. For this project, we tackled a couple of areas around the home that were left untouched. During out last visit, we didn’t renovate the guest bathroom shower. It was small and uninviting. The guest bathroom was also plagued by having an exterior entrance that took away from the size of the shower and the beauty of the bathroom. We closed in the second access door and an existing closet in the garage to allow us to create a much more useful space for the shower. Our client had a very specific idea of what he wanted the shower to look like and I feel like we delivered. This shower features an overhead rain head, a four position custom shower valve, a custom wall niche, and a frameless glass surround. Other parts of this project were adding additional lighting to the dining room area to match the already renovated kitchen area. 2012 NARI Capital CotY, Merit Award Winner, Residential Basement Interior Newer home in suburb of Ashburn, VA was a home to this military couple. With their growing family and their daughter moving back, they wanted more space. The basement was delivered unfinished from the original builder. The owners could not come up with a desirable floor plan for the space due to stairway that builder put in place and locations of Furnace and hot water heater. After our design staff consulted this couple, we put in a plan in place that they never imagined it to be possible and even affordable. The moved the hot water heater and relocated a stack of return duct to allow more floor space. Then we have redesigned couple of headers to make room for stairway to be redirected. Now the new stairway comes directly from upper level family room and got an open glass door to allow light down the stair path. Just to the left of the stairs we have square off an area for Mechanical and storage room. This confined all ducts, hot water heater and furnace to be in their dedicated area as well as offer storage shelving for additional seasonal packages. The primary goal was to have a home office, full bathroom, guest bedroom and a large entertaining area for their large Texan relatives to visit. We have removed couple of bearing walls by the way of recess structural beams and decorative columns to make the entertaining area as large as to can be. Now we has an 35’x35’ area covered in Exotic Tigerwood and decorated with paneled walls, multi layer crown molding, chair rail, shadow boxing and columns . Just as you come down the steps we have dark cherry built ins to show off her prized possessions, to the right of it double French doors lead us to their home office/library. We have more built-ins along the wide hallway leading into entertaining area. A full bath with double entry to main area and adjacent bedroom furnished with full large walk in shower covered with porcelain decorative tiles and furniture style vanity. We have excavated and created an e-grass window to allow a Bedroom in the left of this basement. A large bar was implemented on the far walls of this basement filled in with cherry custom cabinetry, exotic stone top, tile floors and decorative pendent lights was a place to watch football games and hang out. Focal point of this basement was placement of a new gas fireplace embedded in ledge stone and a large LED TV just above it. This assembly was placed across a sectional piece of furniture and was popping out as you enter the room. By carefully selecting the wood tones of built ins and bar cabinetry complimenting the Exotic wood floors and stone top this place was now the home to our their family events.

Our homeowners purchased this home for its excellent location and great bones. They were desirous of returning it to the era of it’s time while updating and modernizing it with the elegance it deserved. To add to our challenges, they were living out of the country during our design and renovation, making for great communications utilizing modern technology to ensure we could deliver what they hoped to achieve. We opened some space in the kitchen to create an updated and more functional kitchen for this active family, relocating appliances for efficiency, adding an island and relocating a chimney. We had structural challenges with the sagging hardwood floors, which required us to reframe floor systems, and while we were at it, we antique finished the hardwoods reminiscent of the 1940’s. We added wainscoting in the dining room and entry stair hallway to enhance the old-world look and added some arched openings to match other areas of the home. We also added custom moldings to the fireplace wall to allow it to shine as a focal point in the space, utilizing restored antique light fixtures. The finished result is stunning and truly honors the integrity of the original time period of this home.
