Project Overview: The Backyard Renovation 3D Rendering project was developed to visually communicate the design intent and vision for a residential outdoor space. The project aimed to provide clear and engaging representations for both the contractor and the homeowner's association, facilitating a shared understanding of the proposed enhancements. Key Features: 1. New Driveway with Automatic Gates: The design features a contemporary driveway equipped with automated gates, providing convenience and improved security for the property. 2. Exercise Gym with Yoga Area: A dedicated space for fitness activities that includes both a traditional exercise gym and a serene yoga area, encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle. 3. Coffee Station with Juice Bar: This inviting area is designed for relaxation and socialization, featuring a coffee station complemented by a juice bar to enhance outdoor entertaining. 4. Secluded Meditation Space: A tranquil retreat is included, featuring a soothing wall fountain, cold plunge, and sauna, all surrounded by lush tropical vegetation to create an oasis for relaxation and mindfulness. 5. Lush Tropical Vegetation: The landscaping incorporates a variety of tropical plants that enhance privacy, beautify the space, and contribute to the overall calming atmosphere of the outdoor environment. Project Goals: The main goals of the project were to: • Visualize the backyard renovation to gain approval from the homeowner’s association. • Facilitate collaboration with the contractor by providing detailed renderings. • Create an aesthetically appealing and functional outdoor living space that meets the lifestyle needs of the homeowners. The 3D renderings successfully encapsulated the vision for the backyard renovation, presenting a harmonious blend of design and functionality. San Rafael Overview: This garden project began with the demolition of an existing pool and decks cantilevered over a hillside. The garden was originally a Japanese-themed garden retreat and free-form shaped pool. While the client wanted to update and replace many elements, they sought to keep the free-form characteristics of the existing design and repurpose existing materials. BK Landscape Design created a new garden with revetment walls and steps to a succulent garden with salvaged boulders from the pool and pool coping. We built a colored concrete path to access a new wood trellis constructed on the center-line view from the master bedroom. A combination of Bay friendly, native and evergreen plantings were chosen for the planting palette. The overhaul of the yard included low-voltage lighting and minimal drainage. A new wood deck replaced the existing one at the entrance as well as a deck off of the master bedroom that was also constructed from repurposed materials. The style mimics the architectural detail of the mansard roof and simple horizontal wood siding of the house. After removing a juniper (as required by the San Rafael Fire Department within the Wildland-Urban interface) we designed and developed a full front-yard planting plan. All plants are Bay-Friendly, native, and irrigated with a more efficient in-line drip irrigation system to minimize water use. Low-voltage lighting and minimal drainage were also part of the overhaul of the front yard redesign.

A minimal insertion into a densely wooded landscape, the Collector’s Pavilion provides the owners with an 8,000 sf private fitness space and vintage automobile gallery. On a gently sloping site in amongst a grove of trees, the pavilion slides into the topography - mimicking and contrasting the surrounding landscape with a folded roof plane that hovers over a board formed concrete base. The clients’ requirement for a nearby room to display a growing car collection as well as provide a remote area for personal fitness carries with it a series of challenges related to privacy and security. The pavilion nestles into the wooded site - finding a home in a small clearing - and merges with the sloping landscape. The building has dual personalities, serving as a private and secure bunker from the exterior, while transforming into a warm and inviting space on the interior. The use of indirect light and the need to obscure direct views from the public right away provides the client with adequate day light for day-to-day use while ensuring that strict privacy is maintained. This shifting personality is also dramatically affected by the seasons - contrasting and merging with the surrounding environment depending on the time of year. The Collector’s Pavilion employs meticulous detailing of its concrete to steel to wood connections, exploring the grounded nature of poured concrete in conjunction with a delicate wood roof system that floats above a grid of steel. Above all, the Pavilion harmonizes with it’s natural surroundings through it’s materiality, formal language, and siting. Woodinville WA Phased Farmhouse Transformation Project Project Overview In Woodinville, WA, our team at M3Decks & Outdoor Living executed a multi-phase, three-year transformation of a 1970s woody walk-up home, converting it into a stunning farmhouse-style retreat. This project, tailored to the client’s vision, showcases our expertise in custom deck construction, structural enhancements, and outdoor living solutions, with a focus on quality and timeless design. Project Phases Phase 1: Deck and Entry Deck (Year 1) Scope: Designed and constructed a composite deck using premium TimberTech materials, paired with a welcoming entry deck to enhance curb appeal. The decks were built with Fortress Steel Framing for durability, aligning with the farmhouse aesthetic through clean lines and rustic charm. Features: Incorporated a multi-level layout to maximize usable space, with decorative railings and a drink rail cap for functionality and style. Phase 2: Roof Extension and DrySpace Installation (Year 2) Scope: Extended the roof over the second-story deck and entryway to create a covered outdoor living area. Installed TimberTech DrySpace under the deck to create a dry, usable space below, ideal for a future hot tub. Design Elements: The roof extension featured farmhouse-inspired gabled roofing with exposed beams, complementing the home’s updated aesthetic. The DrySpace system ensured weather protection for the under-deck area. Outcome: The covered deck became a year-round outdoor oasis, while the DrySpace addition increased the home’s functional space, adding value and versatility. Phase 3: Hardscaping (Planned for Year 3) Scope: Scheduled to return for the final phase, which will focus on hardscaping to complete the outdoor transformation. Plans include a stamped concrete patio, planter boxes with Pacific Northwest-native plants, and a fire pit to enhance the farmhouse vibe. Goals: Create a cohesive outdoor environment that integrates with the existing deck and roof structures, prioritizing biophilic design principles for a natural, inviting space. Anticipated Outcome: The hardscaping will finalize the property’s evolution into a luxurious, functional outdoor retreat, perfect for entertaining and relaxation. Key Features Farmhouse Aesthetic: Rustic yet modern design with TimberTech composite decking, exposed beam roofing, and farmhouse-inspired detailing. TimberTech DrySpace: Innovative under-deck system to ensure a dry, usable space for future additions like a hot tub.
