Modern Pacific Northwest residence designed for a steep hillside property with elevated water and territorial views. The project required careful integration of engineered foundation systems, retaining walls, and multi-level living spaces to maximize the challenging site conditions while preserving functional outdoor areas and view corridors.
The exterior combines contemporary architectural forms, expansive glazing, and warm evening lighting to create a dramatic modern presence that responds directly to the terrain, orientation, and surrounding Pacific Northwest landscape.

Lagoon-side property in the Bel Marin Keys, Novato, CA. Entertaining and enjoying the views were a primary design goal for this project along with replacing the lawn with CA native and low water plants and a total renovation. The project includes a large camaru deck with built-in seating. The concrete steps and pavers lead down to the water's edge. I included a sunken patio on one side and a beautiful Buddha statue on the other, surrounded by succulents and other low-water, contemporary plantings. I also used Dymondia ground cover to create a natural pathways within the garden.

The 3,200 sf. residence occupies a difficult portion of a northern sloped hillside, overlooking a verdant valley toward Castle Rock. The steep terrain necessitated a compartmentalized plan capable of negotiating the gentle hillock at the center of the site. A corridor/bridge spans between two pieces of the house, uniting living and sleeping spaces, and allowing an existing watercourse to flow essentially through the house unobstructed.

A rebuilt deck, the old deck was removed and the new one was rebuilt to match the style. We installed a custom cedar post cable rail. The terrain was difficult and a lot of the work went into a new support system with new concrete piers.
