This home is located on a one acre parcel of land near the banks of the Milwaukee River in the older established subdivision of Sleepy Hollow Estates in Mequon, Wisconsin. The inspiration for this Glen Cove Residence was to bring the desired by many, contemporary and modern lifestyle of a down town loft and establish it in a neighborhood in the suburbs amongst traditional style homes. Sleepy Hollow Estates like many older established neighborhoods throughout the North shore and Westside communities of Milwaukee had great local architects such as John Randall McDonald and Russell Barr Williamson, who built contemporary master pieces amongst very traditional style homes. This created diversity in the style of homes in these neighborhoods which for the people living in them and the people just passing by, an experience of harmony and cultural lifestyle. Unfortunately today, many new neighborhood developments lack harmony and cultural lifestyle and don’t allow for homes such as this Glen Cove Residence to be built. Boulder County, Colorado is home to over 100,000 acres of open space. These lands help to conserve the natural, cultural, and agricultural resources that would otherwise be up for unchecked commercial development. Homes that border open space land have an opportunity to support that 'transitional edge', as a place for plant and animal diversity. Native and pollinator-friendly perennials line the dry creek bed, with water runoff benefiting the plants. Keeping a 'natural look' with the landscape so that it flows to the open space was a key desire of the homeowner. The plants are still quite young here, but were selected so that full-grown they would not diminish the expansive views.

In keeping with the grand Palladian architectural style of the Pondbank House, the landscape architect has created an impressive series of complementary Mediterranean garden spaces using local stone for terracing and High Plains adapted plants. In addition to a kitchen and cutting garden and diverse planting schemes featuring over 250 species, there are many delightful pieces of garden art and creative garden details. Decorative fountain walls distribute roof and storm drainage to terraced plantings. An infinity lawn edge creates a “ha-ha” effect from the pool terrace to the borrowed landscape in the distance. A lovely moon gate leads to a secluded Japanese-style spa garden, an “aromabo” for contemplative relaxation and outdoor aromatherapy. Inspiration for a transitional dark wood floor and brown floor living room remodel in Chicago with gray walls

This park-side cottage needed an update. Susan Currie Design gave it a sophisticated transitional facelift. Inspired by two pieces of modern art the homeowner loved, Susan set to work on the sunny living room. The owner wanted to keep her vintage sofa, so we restyled the arms, added a bench cushion, and reupholstered it in taupe velvet. Purple is this room’s strongest pop of color, wowing visitors and feel fresh. Modern quartz lamps, a sleek black console table, and geometric wallpaper on one wall keep the space from feeling too traditional. In the guest bedroom, a custom headboard makes guests feel like royalty. Plenty of pillows, embroidered bedding, and crystal lamps complete the luxurious look. Three full baths were all treated in elegant white and gray. These rooms are deluxe, with Calacatta Gold marble countertops and shower walls and inset cabinet doors and drawer fronts.
