Study room - large contemporary freestanding desk medium tone wood floor study room idea in Sydney with white walls

Our clients had a 2 car garage with small bays - not large enough for their vehicles. The garage was rear facing, so there required a lot of asphalt to drive around the home and park. We remodeled the space to create a larger, front-facing bay and new entrance. This enabled a spacious mudroom and new entry. This view shows the completed project from the back- the garage door openings were maintained (with new doors); to enable the occasional need for a front-to-back vehicular opening for the garage bay; the bay on the right services a spacious storage area for bikes & yard equipment with the new mudroom beyond. This project won in the 2013 Builders Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh Housing Excellence Award for Best Urban Renewal Renovation Project. The glass bowl was made in the glass studio owned by the owner which is adjacent to the residence. The mirror is a repurposed window. The door is repurposed from a boarding house.

Lorie Gleichman wrote in Portrait of Portland magazine - "the curve of the dropped ceiling over the corridor mimics the curve on the fireplace wall. Both soften the straight lines of the windows and framing, the sharp angles of the roofline, and the structured furnishings."

The Dublexo Frej chair is the obvious addition to the Dublexo Frej sofa bed providing a natural interior design and a flexible sofa arrangement. Its modular back gear mechanism and solid oak armrests elevate comfort and the lounging effect as it enables you to sit relaxed and lounge comfortably. It can be used as an occasional chaise too, but based on the solid oak legs and arms, it does best as a stand-alone chair.

Ligne Roset Noomi Outdoor Table
softsquare.com
CONCEPT: Usable both indoors (in the corner of a kitchen, occasional pedestal table) or outdoors (on a terrace or in the garden), the Noomi table combines a minimalist lacquered steel base with a round top made from Fenix HPL laminate.
This table is characteristic of the tables found in pavement cafés, yet in a modernized, pared-down form. Its folding top brings added compactness, enabling it to be stored more easily when not in use, or protected from bad weather when used outside

This home office supports a small business with occasional client consultations. Set just off the entrance to the home, it admits professional visitors with minimal disturbance to the residential zones.
A wrap-around Formica task surface provides ample space to spread projects out, facilitates sharing of office equipment and eases collaboration between the two workstations. A meeting table and big screen monitor enable consultations with clients to be away from the clutter of the work area. Luxury vinyl plank flooring is hard wearing and easy-rolling for office chairs and dampens acoustic reflections.
Cedar recycled from old utility poles was used for the meeting table and desk panels, and mahogany recovered from old wine barrels was milled into edging to tie the various components together. Inexpensive pine planks, stained to match the cedar, frame a large window overlooking a stress-relieving koi pond.

Our designer has achieved a stylish look by combining dark cabinets and light-colored marbles.

The living room was long and narrow but with an amazing bay window. Instead of a galley style living room used by the previous owner, we decided to change the furniture arrangement by putting one big comfy L-shaped sectional all the way to one side to create a pass-through area enabling a better foot traffic. We then added two side chairs for extra seats. We also mounted our TV on top of the fireplace to gain more space. Although it's not my favorite design choice to have TV on top of the fireplace because I think it takes away from the fireplace but we had to work within the limitation of the space.
For the fireplace, we bought wood stove insert and inserted it into the existing masonry fireplace. The look was updated by granite tiles around the insert and custom built wood mantel.
Buying wood fireplace insert was the best decision we made. First of all, it created a memorable space in our home. I LOVE the sound of wood cracking and the smell of wood burning. In winter nights we would sit around the fireplace and make s'mores like it's a campfire. Second, it's a clean burning and efficient heater. You don't lose the majority the fire’s heat up the chimney thereby saving money on your heating bill.
The coffee table is purchased from Wicker Emporium and it's made from reclaimed pine timbers giving the house a rustic feel.
The side chair by the fireplace is the perfect spot for me to relax, put my feet up on the large ball shaped knitted foot rest and enjoy a cup of cappuccino or cozy up with a good book.

Our poster project for The Three P's, this small midcentury home south of campus has great bones but lacked vibrancy - a je ne sais quoi that the clients were searching to savoir once and for all. SYI worked with them to nail down a design direction and furniture plan, and they decided to invest in the big-impact items first: built-ins and lighting and a fresh paint job that included a beautiful deep blue-green line around the windows. The vintage rug was an Etsy score at an awesome price, but only after the client spent months scouring options and sources online that matched the vision and dimensions of the plan. A good year later, the West Elm sofa went on sale, so the client took advantage; some time after that, they painted the kitchen, created the drop zone / bench area, and rounded out the room with occasional tables and accessories. Their lesson: in patience, and details, there is beauty.

This is an organic Lime Wash done with a true lime wash product as opposed to a brick mortar or concrete that is often seen on new houses. This product can be applied as a solid coating making the surface completely white, or can be applied and "washed off" in many artistic ways, as seen here. If you hate your brick or just want something unique this is a great option!

Our latest redesign of this home’s main level seamlessly blends architectural elegance with contemporary comfort. The foyer now makes a striking first impression, featuring refined wall molding, a fresh coat of paint, and a custom veneer bench seat. A breathtaking chandelier in polished nickel and crystal serves as the focal point, adding a layer of timeless sophistication. Moving into the family room, we introduced a textured Manila hemp wallpaper on the ceiling, evoking the soft movement of clouds. The fireplace was refaced in quartz while the existing mantel was carefully reapplied per the client’s request. A 14-foot curved performance fabric sofa, complemented by custom velvet throw pillows, sets the stage for a welcoming yet luxurious space. To enhance the room’s flow, we incorporated a 10-foot diameter rug that follows the sofa’s elegant curve, along with new drapery, swivel chairs, and carefully selected occasional tables.
Storage and smart functionality were key in this redesign. Custom cabinetry flanking the fireplace provides ample storage while floating shelves above, equipped with smart home-enabled LED strip lighting, showcase thoughtfully curated accessories. In the powder room, we introduced an ebony veneer push-to-open custom vanity topped with a striking Calacatta Viola marble sink. A custom mirror and premium light fixtures accentuate the rich new paint colors, elevating this small yet impactful space. The result is a refined, harmonious interior that reflects both the home’s architecture and the client’s desire for warmth and sophistication.
