The kitchen was completely reimagined with improved workflow, custom cabinetry, premium finishes, and thoughtful design details that blend style and practicality. Adjacent dining spaces were updated to encourage gathering and connection, while the custom bar area provides the perfect setting for hosting family and friends. By carefully integrating each space, the renovation created a seamless flow throughout the main floor, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality. Dining Room in Bronco | Key Feature: A Scottsdale new-build rooted in sculptural modernism, Bronco Revival balances bold black-and-white contrast with organic textures, natural wood elements, and statement lighting. As a groundbreaking “Live Lab” designer residence, it’s a first-of-its-kind space where luxury furnishings are tested in real-world conditions before being introduced into high-profile client homes. Challenge: Because Bronco Revival was the designer’s personal residence, the project carried a unique level of pressure and intention. The challenge was creating a Scottsdale new-build that felt elevated and editorial while still functioning as a true family home. Every selection had to balance bold sculptural modernism (high contrast, statement lighting, architectural furnishings) with durability, comfort, and day-to-day livability. In addition, the home served as a “Live Lab,” meaning new vendors, materials, and luxury furnishings needed to be tested in real-life conditions before being trusted for future high-profile client projects. Solution: We approached the project with a highly curated, test-and-refine design strategy, treating each space as both a finished interior and a real-world evaluation environment. Key furnishings, textiles, and materials were selected to support the modern organic vision while also standing up to the demands of everyday family life. We worked through selections intentionally, layering in bold contrast, natural woods, and sculptural statement pieces, while prioritizing performance materials, pet-friendly durability, and timeless foundational elements. By using the home as a lived-in showroom, we were able to validate what truly performs beautifully, refine our vendor relationships, and confidently carry those proven selections into future client designs. Rugged beauty and four-season adventure drew the owners to the area but presented challenges, including wildfire risk. The site needed a durable shelter that responsibly integrates with the environment. Clad in sand-colored stucco, the house will intentionally be obscured by grasses and junipers over time. Outdoor spaces are layered to match the undulating topography. A steel superstructure enables an ultra-thin roof with overhangs for passive solar design that withstand gale-force winds and heavy snow loads. A crushed-granite courtyard offers refuge on windy days. This space is enclosed by operable Cor-Ten panels that rotate open to reveal dune views or close for a cloistered experience. The courtyard is further defined by a deconstructed roof with an aperture that frames sky views. Expansive glazing and porcelain flooring unites interior and exterior, evoking a sense of inhabiting an infinity house. A screen porch, concealed by louvers, is a contemporary interpretation of a time-honored lake house vernacular. ​Layers of light and an edited palette of materials unify the interior and evoke a laid-back feeling of beach towns. On both levels, bronze glass walls artfully define rooms while preserving views.

Designed in collaboration with Alison Hall Architect, this Summer 2023 outdoor living renovation transformed an underutilized backyard into a luxurious extension of the home. The project centered around the creation of a custom covered porch that seamlessly blends indoor comfort with outdoor living. The renovated space features a spacious outdoor living area, a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, a beautiful fireplace, and an inviting patio designed for entertaining and relaxation. Every element was thoughtfully planned to maximize functionality while maintaining a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The covered porch provides year-round usability, offering protection from the elements while creating a comfortable gathering place for family and friends. Combined with the outdoor kitchen and fireplace, the space serves as a true outdoor retreat that enhances both the lifestyle and value of the home. The result is a timeless outdoor living environment where comfort, craftsmanship, and thoughtful design come together to create the perfect setting for entertaining and everyday enjoyment.

A145 features a specific program for a family whose main requirement was the versatility of the social space, having spaces wholly open and integrated and simultaneously being able to divide them for the comfort of each one of its members. The home is located in the Ayamonte Golf Club and its dividing line with the spring forest in Zapopan, with an East-West orientation, on a land of 1000m2. From an aesthetic point of view, the house was designed based on the spring forest’s primary setting. Special care was taken in the landscape design, integrating species of the region organically. Using natural materials in facades and interiors was a deliberate choice, with the intention that the construction, over the years, would become part of the natural setting and transform along with it. The residence is not just a home but a friend to the environment. It is equipped with solar panels for the house’s daily use and the pool’s heating, reducing its carbon footprint. Additionally, it has a water treatment plant, ensuring responsible water usage and management. The interior design style vividly reflects the residents’ personalities. Most of the pieces made in Mexico were designed and manufactured in a contemporary style.

The Hive This remodel transforms three small, crowded rooms into an expansive, open kitchen connecting directly onto a new backyard deck. The coziness of a former breakfast nook is re-created with a built-in bench with discreet storage, and a pre-existing island is re-imagined with a new marble surface and complementary marble slab installed above the counters. The new modern kitchen, combines bamboo, white, and glass cabinet materials and integrates an original Wedgewood range stove providing a spacious, open environment. Outside, the new deck design addresses a previous basement flooding problem and brings together the upper and lower floors with a floating “crow’s nest” balcony, maximizing available outdoor space for use by both couples. To avoid the need for a support post, the balcony is supported by steel beams cantilevered into the house itself. Its custom rail system is galvanized steel and stainless steel cable, leaving as much space open as possible, and a steel awning overhead protects the new door from potential rain damage. The deck itself, as well as its railings and trellis structure, are built in durable ipe, a smooth barefoot-friendly hardwood. Stairs and seating create a smooth transition from the elevated deck down into the yard, where the new owners installed flagstones and setup their own bee hives.

Designed for a young creative with a love for art, books, and the color blue, this bedroom was thoughtfully transformed into a sophisticated space that feels both elevated and inspiring — a room she can continue to grow into for years to come. The design balances elegance and function through custom floor-to-ceiling millwork in a soft natural wood finish, paired with calming blue accents that reflect her personality in a refined and timeless way. Because creativity is a big part of her daily life, maximizing organization and usable workspace was essential. A large custom desk extends into the room to create an expansive work surface, allowing space for art projects, studying, and collaborative creativity with friends. Integrated cabinetry and generous drawer storage help keep supplies organized and easily accessible, while open shelving provides room to display meaningful pieces and evolving inspiration. To maintain a calm and visually clean environment, frosted glass cabinet doors were incorporated to softly conceal books, art materials, and treasured collections while minimizing visual clutter and dust collection. The result is a space that feels serene, polished, and highly functional without losing the warmth and personality of a young artist’s retreat. Soft textures, layered lighting, and carefully curated details complete the room, creating an inviting atmosphere that encourages creativity, focus, and comfort in equal measure.

Our goal for this project was to transform this home from family-friendly to an empty nesters sanctuary. We opted for a sophisticated palette throughout the house, featuring blues, greys, taupes, and creams. This project was designed, and developed by Rhodes Architecture + Light while Josh Meharry was a team member. Constructed within a rare five acre plot of forested land in Bothell, this house design stemmed from an interest in both creating connections to the surrounding environment as well as carving out an area for communal gathering for this family of 6 to come together with their extended family, friends and community. In response to this desire, the main residence was broken into three separate structures arranged roughly into a “C” confirguration, which formed an inner courtyard where communal gatherings could take place that was adjacent to but felt distinct from the surrounding forest. All three structures support different uses for the residence, but all have views toward and open onto this inner court. Since the residence was located at the low point of a shallow ravine that runs through the site, the two side structures were built into the surrounding hillsides with boardformed concrete retaining walls that are exposed at both the interior and exterior of the house. The central structure that houses the main interior living spaces, bridges over a small stream that flows during the wet season, allowing the site’s natural drainage patterns to remain intact. The spanning portion of this central structure is supported off of two cast in place board-formed concrete chimneys, which also act to define the edges of the main interior spaces and include large double sided fireplaces. This central structure was designed to be very transparent to be as inviting as possible and provide views through the structure to the inner courtyard and into the forest beyond. The simple gabled forms are typical of traditional Pacific Northwest homes and cabins found in forested settings like this, and are preferred for their structural efficiency, and their ability to shed rain, snow and tree debris. The roof forms are vaulted at the interior as well, creating an increased sense of spaciousness. The exterior materials used are extremely durable and will remain maintenance free for many years, with corten standing seam metal roofs, corrugated pre-finished siding, exposed board-formed concrete and powder coated steel.

Initially designed as a bachelor's Sonoma weekend getaway, The Fan House features glass and steel garage-style doors that take advantage of the verdant 40-acre hilltop property. With the addition of a wife and children, the secondary residence's interiors needed to change. Ann Lowengart Interiors created a family-friendly environment while adhering to the homeowner's preference for streamlined silhouettes. In the open living-dining room, a neutral color palette and contemporary furnishings showcase the modern architecture and stunning views. A separate guest house provides a respite for visiting urban dwellers.
